my brother said my p5 looked like a toyota matrix...I then killed him promtly and put the body in the trash

I think you have seen one to many episodes of The Spranos.

As far as the MP5 looking like anything else. The only car its close to is the IS300 sportcross, and the MP5 is way better looking.

Maybe they think it looks like a ZX5! :D Shows you how observant they are! I know what you mean though, you are moving up in the world and get a Pro5 after owning a ZX3 and nobody notices. I almost got a ZX3, but a last minute test drive of the ES sold me. I came in looking at the P5s which were out of my price range and the salesman let me drive a DX which was unimpressive (esp. when it came with an auto as well). After trying to figure out what I could get with my budget constraints, the sales manager suggested an ES which wasn't on the lot, but in the back still with white wrapping on it. It is history ever since. ;)

I hate to say this guys, but the P5 is part focus..literally. Ford basically owns all of Mazda and used the Puma platform from europe to make the Protege and Focus series of cars. Ford is also planning on using the 6's framework for a new line of Mazda and Ford Vehicles. Furthermore, the new Mazda 3, the redo of our beloved P5 will be based off the new Focus platform...Despite this news, the P5 is a far superior car..i drove all the focus models..crap...except for the SVT which hauled ass......

I was under the impression that the Protege is an evolution of the 323. Do you mean recent models? The Puma went into production in 1997, seven years after the first Proteges appeared. I could be wrong though.

Im talking about the newer versions of the protege. I beleive the newer proteges and Focui were released around the same time.

WHOA! :wtf: Where have you been in the Protege world? Read the FAQ!!! Current protege's ARE NOT Foci!!!! Not even close, the only part that the current protege shares with the Focus is some seat belt tensioner or something.
Now the new Mazda3 is partly based on the upcoming focus (and v40) chasis and will share the engines, (which are both mazda btw) The Mazda 3 will be made in Japan and will have a very different chasis then the upcoming focus. Get the facts straight jack!!

btw you weren't this kid where you?
I had some stupid trainee at Tire's Plus tell me that my P5 was the same thing as a focus. I just about slapped the kid. I saw his manager next to him rolling his eyes a bit and decided that this kid was just an idiot. I've talked with other people who think it looks similar to the ZX5 and the Matrix, but understanding that they are the same class of car, they do look fairly similar.

Hahaha, I had some total moron tell me that I had a nice RX-8. I was like "WHAT!!! It's a protege5 man." And he just stared at me for a second and said "But its a mazda. They only ever made rx-7's and rx-8's, didnt they?" I just started cracking up and walked away

Dont mean to threadjack, but I have to share this. I was ata gas station the other day when a 94 civic pulls up to the pump next to me. I almost started laughing outright cause the guy had a HUGE aluminium wing that was literally higher than the care. I mean it was no spoiler, it was a real f-ing wing. I asked him why he would do that to his car since it only weighs it down and doesnt halp aerodynamically. When I said that last word, he got this really puzzled look on his face, then he recovered from the big word and said, "Naw man, my dawg dat hooked me up wid dis say it'd gimme senty-five extra hose powa." I told him his "dawg" was a total moron and so was he. I mean I said it to his face. some people just need to realize this. I paid for my gas and on the way home I started thinking about it again and had to pull over for five minutes to stop laughing.

Your lucky he didnt shoot your ass right there on the spot. Anyone who uses the dawg and senty is atleast 5 times more likely to be packing heat!

how is something that is "partly based on the upcoming focus chassis" have a "very different chassis than the upcoming focus?"

and try to be a bit less heated about this. it's not like he was talking about yo' mama.

[shakes head] in any case, the ford focus is a fine car. it was really a toss up, in my case, whether to get a focus ZX5 or a P5. in the end, it was the reliability and the little extra room of the P5 that won me over (that and i know the owner of the dealership - thus $$$ off the MSRP).

the focus handles just as well or (dare i say) even a bit better than the P5. quite neutral handling for a FF car. and before i get maimed, the P5 handles quite well as well (though i still feel a bit of roll)... waiting to get springs to solve that problem.:p

Better watch it. I got all kinds of heat for saying that my Focus handled better than my P5 in another thread. I still stand by that for now. Suspension upgrades may change my opinion.

:ducking again: :D

Actually, ford owns just less than 50% of Mazda. And the stuff about Mazda using a Ford platform is also incorrect. Ford ALWAYS uses a Mazda chassis, not the other way around. The new 3 will be used for Volvo and Ford in the coming years.

Here we go again! I guess its just a matter of opinion. You swear that your focus handled better than your MP5, and I sear my MP5 handles better than my Girlfriends Focus. Lets just agree on the fact that for economy cars the MP5 and the focus handle great.(friday)
