P5 left side FG speaker box

yur right, he's not asking 100%markup...its actually more like 200%!

I havent tried to get a local shop to do glasswork, but I did get one from Wisconsin to do it for me, and as I said it only cost $350 for a custom built FG box for 2 12s with a sliding amp tray and a capacitor molded into it. I was only lucky because a guy I know at the shop had the same car as me, so they used his to mold it.once you factor in the obvious shipping costs, I probably paid somewhere around $250 for a very nice box that took 2 guys a week and a half to build ;)

ok so 115.00 in parts
150.00 labor
50.00 mark up
-------------------------
315.00 ... there is the cost of a box either side you chose the speaker size

Once you do a few, you should be able to wip out a 3-4 over the course of 2 days (working on one while another dries and so forth). If I wasn't in an apartment and had a garage I'd make some for people too. When my 8"s came in I pondered placing them both on the left side but decided against it. That may be my next project though...and if I don't like it, I'll sell it.

Had another comment...

The bondo/sanding stage is by far the most labor intensive (even when you are good at it) and applying vinyl opposed to carpet can be more time consuming also. You should have 3 prices, one for carpet (easiest to hide blemishes), one for vinyl (shows blemishes but easier than painting), and one for painting. All three have different material and labor costs.

very true... however due to labor i dont due painted ... it would add considerably more to the price ...

and i have yet to have anyone ask for vinyl ...

however i do have some purple suede in stock if anyone wants the prince theme in there car :)

no need for the bondo then. If you stretch the fleece properly a few more layers of fiberglass on top of that and a little sanding is all that is necessary. No one will notice through the carpet.

(lol) Prince Theme

the fleece alone dosent give me the curves i like ... there are area's that need bondo to be formed the way i like them ... if you look in the first pics youll see the corner on the top where it needs to be a bit fuller and along the hatch side youll see where i need to even it out some ... but i like to make things just right ... or at least as close as i can get them

dude its not worth yoru time if you were thinking 65$ profit for 4 days of work, i don't dknow how valuble your time is but thats like 15 dollars a day so if you say put in 4 hours a day your basically working for like 3.50 and hour. even 200 labor thats 50$ a day wich say 4 hours means your only making like 12.50 an hour. not worth the trouble in my opinion your not going to make enough money for it to be worth anything. granted if you did do say 4-5 at the same time that should speed up the process, but it seems most people on here are too cheap to pay for it anyway.

by the way most shops charge around 30-40$ an hour labor fees. figure on average their installers are making half that money so right there you are paying for 200% of actual labor prices lol

you know when it all comes down to it ... 315 is the lowest i can sell one for and not take it in the shorts ...

here is the kicker ... what happens if i F*&k one up ? .... who pays for that 115$ down the crapper? ... hmm me ....

how about the 2 boxs that just didnt work before i found the one that did ...

how about the power ... trash and all other costs involved in producing something ? ....

long story short ... if you dont like the price ... go pay someone else to do it ...

or even better DO IT YOURSELF!! ... seriously its not difficult ...just slow ... and toxic ...

dont like my 315 ? ... well how does 115 sound ...

here ill even make it easyer ....

stop 1 homedepot :
1 roll of 6" masking tape
2 packages of fiberglass matt
1 gallon of resin layup (no wax is best)
4 1" paint brushes
1 package latex gloves
1 disposable bucket
1 small container bondo
1 pack bondo spreader (i prefer old credit cards ...but those arent easy to come by)
1 12 x 12 MDF 3/4 "
1 pack ea sand paper 60 - 100 - 300
1 can sandable primer (optional)
1 1/4" wood dowel
1 tube liquid nail's

stop 2 fabric store
1 can adhesive spray
1 yard fleece
2 yard black suede backed fabric
1 hot glue gun
1 pack hot glue

tools that make life easyer
dremel rotory tool ...
hand sander
power drill

now follow these links and get an idea what your doing ...

http://www.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.php?t=36873

allso here are some various pics ... i like to remove the back panel for doing the fiberglassing

this should give you a idea of whats in store to do 1 box ... i urge anyone to try it on there own it is very rewarding when you finish ...

You sound a little hostile now.

The reason there are so many tutorials online is because it really does cost alot to make a fiberglass enclosure. Look at total prices that go into car audio show cars...$10K, $20K, and up... No consumer, aside from the rich and famous, can afford that kind of money on an install so instead they do it themselves and post pictures online of their handywork.

You can't expect to make money by whiping up a few enclosures for fellow protege owners...if they want them that bad, they'll go to a local shop and find out what it really costs. If you enjoy doing it...perhaps you should be working at one of those shops instead of soliciting here. If you want to make some money on the side, make them for honda civics and put them on ebay to capture a larger audience.

honestly im not trying to be hostile ... what i would LOVE to see is people out there trying to make there own ... i think it would be great ... now when i posted my first box i had lots of people asking me to make them one ... this is the thread of how much i want to make one ... if someone wants to buy it great ... if no thats no sweat either ...

but ill tell you this much ... ive already sold more then 1 and i have people wanting still .... so if you find the price not to your taste please either try on your own or live with a premade from your auto shope ... but dont kick me in the balls beacuse you think my price is high ...

so if your wondering ...wow he sounds hostile now for sure .. yes ... its getting to me a little

however i will happily go out of my way to help anyone that wants to try this on there own !!!

so in closing ... put up or shut up

ok change of heart ... im making these ... if you want one speak up ...

if you want to hate on me beacuse you dont have the balls to make one yourself..... (fu)

ohh and thanks George

If your plannning on making a few of these, then to save time the best thing you can do is get a spray gun and compresor and use feather fill instead of bondo. This will cutdown your expenses and time in bondoing. You can basicly get the peice smooth in one step.

If you want to take it one step further then you can check out JL audios website and there how to on making molds.

If you do decide to start selling these, you need to get authorization from the boards Administrators.

good idea on the FF ...
and got my package in with antoine for AMM

Your willingness to do it alone should be appreciated. I recall when I was making mine I got alot of offers to buy from ppl all of whom understood what all was involved. I was even all fired up to do it, but it's just alot of work, and alot of messing with stuff that I ultimately wasn't down with doing regularly. That actually reminds me, I'll go through my old PM's and possibly send some ppl your way if you're still interested, I promise they're not jackholes about it.

In the meantime, GO make youself some kicks, you'll be impressed. just make sure you play with aiming for a good while before making anything solid. I keep moving mine and finding different things I like or don't.

well this is the left box ... it dosent look 100% perfect to me ...however it sounds great ...

ill have more pics tomorow after i install my trunk again
