P5 handling capabilities

The only thing that concerns me doing that stuff is oil deprevation. How crazy is it that these cars handle so good you can blow your motor?
 
^Yeah.... I know we put down some REAL GOOD numbers - i believe with my mods i pull .89gs...

I like to do it too when i can (safely of course;))

But in all seriousness, yeah, the stock suspension is good compared to most cars, but it's not THAAAT good. Don't get me wrong, I'm not baggin on the car, I f-ing love 'ol blue, but until you start auto-xing (or road racing I guess, I've never done it so I can't say), you never realize the huge handling imbalance. If you're anywhere near the handling limit, the P5 understeers really bad. Sure, you can counteract that with throttle lift over steer or trail braking, but you're still losing time to a car that can do the same maneuver w/o scrubbing the speed to get the car to turn.

Just my .02

PS: Mazdaspeed suspension is on the menu later on this summer ;)
 
Yeah my friend's got an E30 BMW with all kinds of suspension mods. I can keep up to him stock and he was surprised as hell when I did it.

Yea I like that picture of your car there. I have a similar one but its from ButtonWillow raceway

laguna seca

and as much as I love our cars, I think I have more fun with the S2000. Just has a much more fun feeling to drive than our cars. It handles well, and we get good rep for it, but the driver is what makes the car, not the car making the driver.

Yes the P5 handles most excellent, but sticking it to wrx and evos while stock... aren't we getting a little ahead of ourselves here?

I love people coming up on my ass on curvey back roads, and launching and not seeing them again till i stop for a few min at a stop sign or light.
 
I really don't think our cars can touch EVOs. WRX, maybe, but definately not as fast.
 
Mazfest 2005 Ford was testing some supercharged 06 or 07 mustangs on the track with us with professional drivers.

I was able to eat those supercharged mustangs in the corners but of course they up and left me on the straits.

At masfest 05 Randy Pobst was playing with a prototype speed 6 and was behind me on the track for about half if it.

Afterwards I was talking with him. He asked me if my P5 was turbo'd. I told him no, why do you ask? He replied cause its really quick in the corners.

After that my head swelled so big I couldn't get my helmet back on.

I'm surprised no one here has really complained about understeer. Our cars understeer like mad when pushed to the limit. But this can be changed tho. Thats why I got the Racing Beat rear sway, hehe. Its one of the best mods one can do to suspension.

The car likes to pivot now, rather than just feel like its plowing through the corner. Gotta becareful when weight shifting the car forward, the tail can become slide happy, which is a very interesting feelin in a FWD car.

Almost completely different driving style than a rwd....say a miata.

P5:To slide, u let go of gas (uhm)
Miata: To slide, u apply gas (cabpatch)

Either way, I love how our cars handle.
