P5 Expected Summer Mods; Input Appreciated.

:
2002 Mazda Protege5 Hatch
Hey guys, so I have created a list of the future modifications (as simple as they may be) that I would like to accomplish to my red 2002 P5 throughout this summer.. If you have any ideas or tips on how something should be / not be done, it would be greatly appreciated.

The vehicle is stock besides sound system, 10000k HIDs and AEM CAI.

This is mainly a post to allow me to keep track of what I have done along with what I still need to do.

List:

Yellow Fog-Light Lense Tint
Tinted Headlights (Light Tint)
Shaved Hatch
Red Fiberglass Badgeless Grille (Where the heck can I pick one of these up?!)
Coilovers (Slammed, Looking to Tuck.. price range of under $500)
Painted Valve Cover (Red?)
Painted Calipers (Red?)
Restore OEM Rims (Peeling) and Paint Black
ShiftKnob (Maybe a MSP Knob?)
Tinted Taillights (Once again, Just a Light Tint)
Stubby CF Antennae (Ebay?)
Remove Side Mouldings
ShortShifter
Home Depot DIY Lip
Exhaust (Magnaflow?)
Hella Supertones

Thanks for viewing,
Have a good one.

Well I will just go down the list with advice:

First, I would SERIOUSLY consider getting different bulbs for your HIDs. 10000k might look cool but the output is beyond piss poor. Not sure if you have had to drive with them in the rain yet but you probably can't even see the road. I wouldn't go any higher than 7000k and even that is pushing it. Go with 5000k and you'll have a good look and be able to actually use them. This is more a matter of safety than anything.

Tinted Headlights (Light Tint) - Another thing I would reconsider, esp with your current HIDs. I would look into just painting the inside bezles. You can find a write up in the How-To section on them. It will give you a great look any no compromise in light output.

Red Fiberglass Badgeless Grille (Where the heck can I pick one of these up?!) - I believe you are referring to the DGM Motorsports Grille. You can get it from their site or look in the FS section. If you get one that is unpainted, go to paintscratch.com if you want to get color matching paint for your car.

Coilovers (Slammed, Looking to Tuck.. price range of under $500) - If you are looking for that price, your only choice is the f/s section. I don't think anything new will be under $700. If you really want to get slammed and tucked you will need to do a few more things too, but since I just have a light drop (1.5") it would be best to PM someone on here who is slammed and get advice.

Painted Valve Cover (Red?) - Look in the How-To section, there is a write up for this.

Restore OEM Rims (Peeling) and Paint Black - There is a How-To for this as well. If its not in the How-To section, try using the search in the P5 section. I know someone on here with a yellow p5 wrote something up for this and it was done well.

ShiftKnob (Maybe a MSP Knob?) - Plenty of choices for this. I have a Greddy Counter-Weight shift knob. Its heavy and gives a slight improvement in shift feel (this might be all in my head).

Tinted Taillights (Once again, Just a Light Tint) - Look into VHT Nite-Shades. This is what I used and gets the job done. Biggest piece of advice I can give you on this is only put 1 or two coats on. When you are doing this the tint won't appear right away. Over a few hours they get darker so this can lead to some over-tinting problems if you are not careful. You can also look into films but crinkling/bubbling comes into play, esp with a curved edge.

Stubby CF Antennae (Ebay?) - I think the s2000 antennae fits out care and is a good replacement. Ebay would probably be a safe bet too. I personally like our large antennae, it reminds me of an r/c car.

Remove Side Mouldings - Check the How-To section for a write up

ShortShifter - TWM is your best bet for this. Make sure you get urethane bushings too, they are probably the best mod you can do to make your shifts smoother.

Exhaust (Magnaflow?) - Magnaflow is good, many people (including myself) swear by Racing Beat. Both of these are good if you want an increase in sound but not overly so. If you want a loud exhaust, look into Corksport. Also look into a header and midpipe if you want to open her up correctly.

Hella Supertones - You can find these anywhere (amazon) but make sure you are okay with wiring. It is not hard but if you are afraid of wiring I would ask for help. Also you will need to either get a DGM grille or

For everything, I would poke around the FS section. You will find most of these things if you are patient and they should be at a good price too. Hope this helps.

if you're looking for horns i heard that the sickspeed ones are going for $35 shipped on ebay today and tomorrow... save some $$$ (2thumbs)

Racing beat is a bit too quite for my tastes although I have stock mp3 axle back and not the actual cat back...

I agree on the headlights def do not tint them

Cheapest coil overs are $950 but you can do tokico blues and Megan racing springs (2" drop) for about $500

Other options for short shifter- mp3 is a lil bit shorter but has odd ball thread size. Msp is way shorter I plan on going with it. Stay away from obx they like to snap off in cold weather...

ebay catback exhaust is totally the best bang for the buck. Dont tint your headlights, just black out the headlights as previously stated (its easier, cheaper, and safer)

Side molding removal is "fun" but its not that bad

For fogs I've got Luminics jdm yellow bulbs (H3) ($27) and I love them, Ive had em' for about a year now and no complaints. and metrorestyling dark yellow tint film from amazon for like $6, and its some of the best i've used.
