P5 exhaust size?

How big is the exhaust pipe behind the muffler? I found a muffler with a 2.5" inlet. Just curious if it will fit.

just get a muffler shop to do custom catback pipeing! 2" is optimal foryour car

not to mention if you get a cat back it gets rid of that nast ol' resonator...and your car will sound so much nicer....

AND. if you do have a shop do it for you....and they replace the pipe from the cat all the way back...have them remove the heat shield that is there for the resonator and just take it home....you dont' need it without the resonator...and if you put in a short shifter it would be in the way anyway...

I also recommend that you have the shop that does the work to SAVE your stock system...take it home...you just never know when someone might want to buy it...OR you may want to switch back and save your NEW system if you ever decide to trade the car off....afterall...its a universal muffler.

NOW to your real question....our piping varries in size from front to back...just depends on where you measure it...however the nominal size of the stock pipe is 2 1/4 inches....it gets necked down in numerous places which in effect makes the pipe that size...at both joints where the middle section bolts together (at the cat and at the muffler) the piping is necked down to 1 3/4 inchs (inside diameter of the pipe).

I have a 2 1/2 '' piping in hope of a turbo. I kinda was think'n ahead. However i did notice a loss in low end tourqe but gained top end hp.

please dont get that muffler,
get somthing better like the bosal or the Racing beat

that muffler will make your car sound like its ripping ass all the way down the road, those are the type of mufflers that people up here use on their Civics, they sound like weed wackers, and have about the same HP.

why get somthing that just makes your car louder? why not get something that makes it sound better and go faster, like the Racing beat

besides you can install the racing beat yourself, why spend $190 on a muffler and $200 for a shop to bend some tubing and take off a few bolts and muffler hangers

I say save up for somthing better

Well the muffler is $70 shipped to my door. I didn't think about having a cat back done with it, taking off the resonator and shield. To do that will be a little more costly. How much does a racing beat cost? and is there much of a power difference between a racing beat exhaust and doing a cat back with this muffler?

I have a Pro1 exaust.......and I put 3 inch stainless cat back on mine and it sounds awesome.......those mufflers like your looking will make it sound like a pissed off bumble bee.....the pro1 I went with is similar to that with out the tunuer...it has a deep tone to it and I love it.....but thats just my opinion I could be wrong.........

I did it so I wouldnt have to do it again....I do in fact plan on putting a turbo on as soon as the warranty is gone....

nice nice..i plan on getting turbo as well... asap or after warranty...but thats after a slew of other mods...so i probably will be past 30k by then haha.. =)

Do yourself a favor and don't opt for the 2.5 over-the-axle section to mount that muffler. 1. you'll loose low end torque, and 2. it'll sound like crap. Speaking from experince here. I just had my whole system removed and a customer 2.25 cat-back and apex-i n1 installed and it's soooo much better than what I had on there. another downside to the old system was because of the huge step up in pipe diameter from the stock system to the 2.5" rust started collecting on the inside of the pipe just after the resonator from condenstation.
