who here has had a pretty good crash in their p5 when you think the airbag shouldve deployed but it didnt, i hit a truck going about 30 last yaer and got nothing....sorta scary

i haven't had a wreak in my p5 (hopefully i won't) but i've read alot that almost every pro involved in a wreak seems to have the same problem.

I am freaking out...

As I was driving in our Caravan today, I get cut off by a freaking sentra. I honk at that stupid b****, she flipps me off. I was wondering what would happen to her if I hit her door, she would have probably got serious damage to her and her car...

People in Cali can't drive.

shoulda hit it to see what would happen (guns) lol i agree about the drivers (insert racial comment here) however i'm 1/2 asian myself (poke) oh well lol

i wrecked my first protege es last summer and totaled it( actually the other guy wrecked it but anyway.... this guy hit my rear left corner doing 70 bounced around me and cut me off so i hit the side of his truck t-bone like.... and no.... come to think of it my airbags didnt deploy???? now that i think of it, kinda hope i never get into another wreck!!

i think they are just in there to be in there. just so mazda can say "lookie, we got airbags" then everyone's insurance goes down and the ntsb says "goooooood mazda, goooooood boy" then they figgur, "hey, those sensors are damned expensive, i don't think anyone would notice if we don't put them in"

Well, you really don't want them deploying unless they're REALLY needed. If those in crashes weren't hurt or didn't hit your heads on the dash/steering wheel or door, I'd say they weren't needed. Airbags fire with expolosive force and can kill you themselves. Better than hitting the dash or busting a window with your head. I'm kind of glad to hear they don't fire easily.

not to mention they are $$$$. unless you really need them you don't want them to deploy.

"Second generation airbags" do not deploy until @35 mph. They work on G force, so any deflection type accident may not set them off. I have been in Emergency Medicine and Trauma for 8 years or so, and have seen significant destruction without airbag deployment. But the people tended to walk away if they weren't ejected or had rollovers. Studies show that in collisions with a braking Gforce greater than a dead stop from 35mph, the injuries sustained increase exponentially.

I had a freind whose airbag deployed during an autocross in his SER. He had an open face helmet and the "first gen" 200 mph airbag broke his nose and his cheekbone. Left a nice seam pattern on his face too.

The new airbags are much safer and do not deploy as quickly. If you all walked away from your accidents without severe injury, then you didn't need the airbag and should be happy that it didn't deploy.

There have been a lot of lawsuits regarding older Nissans airbag deployment. If you didn't need the airbag why worry?

the sensors WILL DEPLOY the bags IF the accident is SEVERE enough. why would you WANT them to come out if i hit a guardrail @ 30mph? airbags are SO DAMN expensive!! Dude, trust me, the engineers know where to put sensors and to tune them to deploy if the accident is bad enough.

i've seen plenty of wrecked p5's on ebay where the airbag HAS deployed. the impact seemed very severe though. much more than just a broken headlight and hood scrunch. it looked more like broken radiator plus broken headlight and hood scrunch. so it does deploy, it just takes a real accident for it to deploy. my brother's corolla deployed when he rear ended an SUV. it was a 15mph hit that sent him to the hospital because of the airbag giving him a nice burn and severe whiplash.

Ok, I was thinking that they don't deploy at all. Of course I wish that nobody be in such or any accident for that matter.

i hate airbags, hehe. and yes, by themselves they can kill you. id rather take my chances at hitting the steering wheel or the dash then be suffocated by a air bag, or get my face smashed by one. ive been in 1 major wreck in my life. i was going about 50 in a 45, and this guy decides to turn left right before im about to cross the intersection, its green both ways. he just picked the wrong time to start turning. anyways, i slam the brakes and try avoiding him by going left (since it was clear their), and i end up nailing his front right side. the entire right front side of my parents van was destroyed and the windshields shattered on the passenger side. the air bag never deployed, and im so glad it didnt. my girlfriend is about 5 foot 3 and weights about 110 pounds. that air bag would have hurt her really bad. luckily no one was injured in the car wreck, but i do not like air bags at all.
