hi i have a 2002 mazda protege which says incorrect gear ratio p0730 help please!!! it starting giving me this code suddenly no warning signs etc the gears were not slipping or anything just one night while i was driving i felt the tranny downshift and upshift abnormally it was like the car was confused as to which gear to select!!
things i tried so far: flush out old tranny fluid was using redline d4, fluid was nasty btw. changed the filter under the valve body and put in fresh redline d4 around 3 and a half quarts anyways can anyone assist me with this problem thanks

update!!

Ok i checked the resistance between the terminals of the turbine input speedsensor got 362 and according to the manual it should be between 250 and 600 ohms anyways what else can i try? or i tried it when the sensor was cold and outside the tranny btw.

changed the turbine speed sensor with a used still no good a I got a mech/tranny guy to drive it today he said it feels like one of the shift soleniods is gone but when im checking with my multimeter for resistance it seems ok can that really be a problem??

ok took out all the soleniods test them for resistance and current tested ok one note though soleniods d and e dosent click like the rest of the soleniods there shaped differently mabe they just work another way can anyone shed light on this?? becuz the manual said that all the soleniods sopposed to click when a 12v is applied to them thanks!!

hmm thanks for the reply would a faulty torque converter cause a p0730 incorrect gear ratio error code? what are your taughts on the d and e soleniod should they click like the rest of them?

Idk much about autos... I just know my Buick did something similar and it had a bad torque converter

Hmm thanks for the info well is there a way to test it ill google it and see what comes up!! the gears shift perfect when cold like through the ranges e.g p-r-d-s-l but when i start to drive I would feel like the car axle is not gripping up properly! it feels something like when your abs locks up the wheels but just less violent!! I checked the axles everything seems ok enough grease no clacking noise when turning!!

As for driving the slipping (if thats what its called when your car starts from rest in a high gear like 3 etc) happens only when the hold light starts to flash then i would have to turn off the car so the code will go away then start back driving and within a few mins it will come back again also when the car tries to go into o\d or third gear it downshifts or slips or behaves abnormally sometimes i get three gears sometimes i get all or two gears but for the most part the car will change gears eractically did your buick do this as well?

Kind Of I would have all gears until it got warm then it would go in and out of 3rd and o/d untill it lost o/d completely after awhile

oK well thats not my problem my torque converter doesnt make any noises a reputable mechanic told me today that it sounds like the seals inside the tranny!! what do you think he said bad seals cause slipping etc
