P0340 and P0300 Codes

A couple of months ago I had a problem with the car dying when I was decelerating. CEL came on and showed two codes (P0340 and P0300) which are for Faulty Cam Position Sensor and Multiple Cylinder Misfire, respectively. I took the car to a mechanic friend who said that there was a ring missing from the sensor causing the sensor to misread and otherwise cause the car to die.

Fast forward to this week I now randomly get the same CEL codes and at random times when driving at highway speeds (60-70 mph) the car will hesitate.

Any ideas as to what it could be now?

what type/brand of cam sensor did you replace it with?

I haven't replaced it. I'm trying to figure out what it could be other than the sensor due to the price.

I had a multiple cylinder misfire a while back (forget what code it was) and it was the egr… I got it cleaned but the problem came back soon later so I replaced it with a better design. Check the egr out cause my car also hesitated at constant speeds and lacked power. I know that those suckers malfunction often
