MIL came on yesterday and my code ready yielded a code of P0171. Do we have a Mazda code for this one or is it the generic code? Ed

Check all your clamps around your intake tube to your throttle body. Your tube from the intake to your valve cover.

My friend's BR-Z just had a lean issue. Bad MAF. Start with the clamps and all, but it may require part replacement.

If somone could lookup the code in the svc manual it will give proper insight. I'm at work right now (open manual, control + f, type code). The code may be generic, but the symptoms and causes, items to check vary. Consult the service manual it lays it out in plain english for the skyactiv g SPECIFICALLY

I checked all hose connections and clamp tightness on the air intake. All looked OK. I erased the error message (ECM light off) and will see if it comes on again which I expect it will. Since it is under warranty, I will not mess with it much, because of repercussions from the dealer experts :-)) Ed

check the maf plug first. check and if needed replace engine air filter. Spray maf cleaner on the maf. Run a fuel injector cleaner. see if the hose going into the intake has suction. no point in looking at the MAP sensor because it's gonna be covered in oil vapour anyways. anything else would mean replacing a part/ having a mechanic look at it.
From the service Manual.

Thank you Chris-top-her: The check list looks intensive and I will start checking when the CEL light returns, Thank you again. Ed

Or...you could just take to the dealer and let them earn their keep. That's why god made warranties!

Agree. I have checked all hose connections and the air intake. When and if the CEL illuminates again, I will take it to the dealer. Ed

Keep in mind Ed, these things are sometimes flukes and it may not reappear. so keep a happy thought!
