My car is making a clunking sound from the passenger side, and occurs only when shifting, particularly in the first three gears. Does anyone know what this might be? It occurs with higher frequency when it is cold out. I checked the inside of the wheel wells for any sign of rubbing/wear/ grease and found nothing...

it could be your CV shaft , because when you are in lower gears they receive more of a jerking motion or should i say that the engine jolts the CVs alot harder then in the higher gears. Also you might have a cracked boot on the CV shaft because when it gets cold the lube start getting stiffer and makes it harder for the inside of the boot to rotate . Also the reason i say this is because i have had this happen to me twice on 2 different cars so check that out . Jack the car up and make sure that the wheels are in the air , when the car is up get under the car and spin the tires , you should hear is click you can hear it from inside of the car . Do that and tell me what you think >??? if you still hear it or what ok . . . . . . Hope this helps

after some driving i noticed two things: one, it goes completely away once it gets warm, and two, there is no ticking or noise of that nature it almost sounds like something is loose, its more like a clunking or banging sound. its inconsistent even when cold, it will only do it when im shifting and not while feathering the clutch only when completely let out.

for what its worth the car only has 21k on it, so i can take it to the dealership, i just would like to have an idea of whats going on so when they say its nothing i can have a leg to stand on

did you replace all 4?
If not, replace the rest of them and the problem will more than likely go away. A buddy of time had a similar problem and it ended up being a tire diameter issue. These cars are fairly sensitive to the OD of the tires.

lol i should have known yeah it was the one tire they didnt replace and they told me about it too.... i just figured that they were close enough since the three replaced were due to damage and now wear. ill have it taken care of thanks.
