My MX6

Here's my old baby. What a tricky clutch! I miss it though. ;( Stupid kid bought it from me because someone had T-boned his, which he kept to use for spare parts. 2 of my friends saw it within a couple of weeks after I sold it and said he had rear-ended someone. (moon)

Upgrade

and you sold it because...........

The interior was tore up and it was getting up in miles. The alternator went out on me and a month later I had to get all new brakes and rotors. I didn't feel like spending anymore to fix it, and my new job meant I could afford a 2006 Mazdaspeed6! I love my new car but it doesn't look nearly as sexy as my MX6.

^ the outside is very clean but underneath......tsk tsk. get out that Simple Green!

Edit: Question. Where did those wheels come from?

What year? the newer ones ive seen have different wheels, unless there's an option to get different ones when you buy a 3.

They go well with the car. How much did you spend on the wheels and tires (I'm guessing with wheel balancing) altogether? I was thinking about buying new wheels, because the ones i have are, well......boring. But i don't want like flashy expensive rims that would look out of place on a four door sedan.

lol, did you find them in a junkyard? or was someone just giving them away because he/she bought new rims?

Oh, and if you put new wheels on your car from another car that already have tires set on them, do you still have to do wheel balancing?

i did a bunch of work for a friend and he bought them for me, the tires came from a miata and they wanted them replaced so i was able to pick them up. sometimes its not what u know but who u know.

Still got this one, sadly languishing in the garage needing a little work. Respray never happened as my brother passed away and I kinda lost interest in cars for about 6 months.

She has had some work done underneath, the wheels have been sold and some cheap ones bought until I can decide what to do with new wheels. She's had the exhaust replaced and a decat pipe fitted, new rear discs and EBC redstuff pads all round. At the moment she needs new rear callipers fitting and a rear O2 sensor to make her ready for the MOT.

I have however been working on my other project instead... and I can't afford to do both. This one is a true Jspec MX6 imported in 99 to the UK. I paid 350 for it, she had a knackered clutch, leaky rockers a cracked rear bumper and some blemishes to the paintwork... and that was it. I was originally going to break her, but when I discovered the condition of her underneath... I decided to restore and rebuild her.

So far she has had a lightened flywheel fitted (stock MX6 is 21lbs, she now has a 14lb one), uprated clutch (EBC), EBC redstuff pads all round, a full stainless exhaust XS power headers, larger high flow sports cat and a scorpion cat back system. 68mm throttle body, colour coded hoses, performance leads and plugs, polyurethane engine mounts (front/rear), whiteline 18mm rear sway bar and front and rear strut braces, the cracked rear bumper was replaced with a mint one in the same colour. I've also done a HID light conversion, converted dash to blue lighting and added some red LED door lights. Converted one reversing light to a fog light, tinted rears, clear side repeaters and a couple of vinyl stickers from my trip to the Nurburgring in her. :)

She's a sleeper, looks a little beaten but goes like stink.. She's currently running close to 220bhp and I have more mods planned for the new year to take her to around 250bhp without forced induction or nitrous. I also plan on a big brake upgrade using parts from a 2006/2007 Mazda 6, new 17" wheels, and daiyama coilover suspension kit.

In June this year, the UK MX6 owners club took a trip to the Nurburgring in Germany, my car sadly developed an oil leak from a cracked oil cooler housing. I managed to bodge up a temp repair to allow me to drive home, but with a minor oil leak I was unable to drive the track that time. I have since returned about 6 weeks later and managed to get 7 laps in, the fastest of which was a 10:48. The car is capable of going much quicker, but I was unfamiliar with the track and had a mismatch of tyres on the car with stock 15" rims. I am already planning a return to the track in summer 2009, by which time I should have had the suspension and brakes uprated. I've also been on a diet and have lost 32lbs and plan on losing another 50lbs... put on a lot of weight after my brother died I'm afraid.

She is more than capable of a 9min lap... and that's the target for next time. 3 days at the track and at least another 20 laps... I'm also thinking of picking up a playstation or xbox along with either Gran Turismo or Forza and learning the track... but a game cannot prepare you for just how awesome it is to go around it... I have never such experienced excitement, exhilaration and sheer terror as I did round that tract... I could say it's better than sex... but that would mean I've probably just had lots of bad sex. :)

^ nice.

Btw Heckler, was it difficult to replace your gauge light(s)?

I'm going to replace all the interior lights with LEDs once i get a credit card, but i figured the gauges would be a pain in the ass, and i can't seem to find the right size for the Dome light on the ceiling. It's a very strangely shaped festoon bulb with hooks on the ends.
