Recently found out my overdrive button doesn't work so I got the manual out and did the tests the suggested found out that the continuity is good and that power is traveling through the wires up to the harness i'm assuming the actually button doesn't work?

Is this possible? Should I replace the whole shifter then or just forget about it ?

Any suggestions...

Thanks

Your post is difficult to decipher. I'm going to assume that you're O/D switch shows continuity and the wiring harness has the proper voltage signals. If that's the case, you need to look further than the switch in that it seems to have tested fine.

I'm having the same problem on my wife's P5 -- the Overdrive button is not responsive (ie: doesn't show in the gauge cluster that O/D is turning 'off' when the button is pressed).

Here's a question though -- since she NEVER turns O/D off, and we live in very flat area, is there even a reason to be concerned that overdrive is always on?

the solider on the button is pretty bad from factory, just remove, resolider and off you go.

should take you no more than 30 mins.

Sweet I'll look into doing that tomorrow. But then again, is it worth it? We've NEVER had to turn O/D off, so I guess the answer to my own question is "no"?

p5 has an overdrive button? wtf?

Yeah, as long as it 'engages OD' i would not care. The trans will downshift when it needs to.

The only issue is if it is 'hunting' (going in/out) under certain conditions constantly. if not. Meh. Leave it alone.

It's better to leave OD on, you will get bad mileage running in 3rd while cruising.

i have a 2002 protege lx 2.0. My O/D button has no effect also. I can't see if its on or not on the dashboard... Does this mean its on or not because i cant know if the light doesnt light up on the dash...???

^You should see the light briefly when you turn the key 'on'. If not - suspect a bad bulb.

Yes, you need OD to get any kind of fuel economy. It is automatically in OD unless you select otherwise.

my od button was broke off when i bought the car so od always on. since the button is gone the car is lighter and goes much faster!
