I wasnt sure where to put this...ok so some of you know im moving to cali next year...well currently i live in oklahoma where i have an ok plate and license...so when i move to cali for a year, they really cant say too much to me right because in oklahoma we have no state inspections or emissions? just like when i went home to pennsylvania, they have different tint laws (you cant have ANY unless its factory with the car, like on a blazer or something) so when i got pulled over, i pretty much told the cop to **** off because do they expect me to change my tint just for my week in pennsylvania? so it should be the same in cali right?

Technically state troopers are allowed to enforce tint laws on both in-state and out-of-state plates. However, you obviously stand a much better chance of getting off if you can provide evidence that your tint meets your state registration's requirement.

im worried more about the emissions s*** like missing cat converters and whatnot in cali...do they like look under your vehicle or what? i dont have to worry about getting inspected there, just by cops

If you are in the military, then the emissions requirements should not affect you. Especially if your state of residency is different from the state you happen to be stationed at currently. There should be an exemption for you.

If your home state doesn't require a cat (AHEM FLORIDA!!!), then you should be safe running no cats in California as long as your car conforms to Oklahoma law.

PA tint laws are gay, i want tint but dont want to deal with the local cops bustin my balls about it.

i know paul i lived there for 19 years lol...oklahoma laws (LAUGHS)? i should be good. paul you on MSN?

I would check the California DMV web site too make sure before hand. Most people who move hear have to registrar their cars with the state of California within 60 days, which means that it has to pass a vehicle emissions test and visual inspection. Good news is that the test is only involves the emissions system and nothing else. The test center could care less what you have done to the car visually just as long as they can get it on the test dyno.

Bad news, it is a visual as well as sniffer test and is done on a dyno so that the vehicle will be tested under load. You will fail without cats and if any of your performance parts do not have C.A.R.B E.O.'s or if you just have to high emissions, which is possible ifyou have 48-state emissions equipment.

You may be exempt due to being in the military but I wouldn't count on it.

Are they as bad as NJ? I still see a fair amount of blacked out NJ cars and I often wonder how they get away with it.

You are allowed to have no front plates - as from the PA laws, but you must obey each and every law in CA; that includes tint and emissions.

I know the following is true of Navy and Marine Corps bases in CA...

Your car must pass CA emissions, even if it is registered in another state, in order for you to get your station ribbon updated on your DoD stickers. Army may have different rules, I don't personally know anyone in the Army here. Call the pass and decal office at your new duty station for the requirements.

If you were a civi then it would all be good until you had to register your car in CA.

yes i am exempt due to being in the military...they cannot force me to change plates...i could still have pennsylvania plates on my car here in oklahoma if i wanted to, but i changed my license to get away from tickets and insurance problems in pa, and changed my plates to avoid having to pay 50 bucks a year or more for emissions/state inspections

i dont see how lude, so that means if nevada has no tint laws, and california is gay about car laws like it is and says you cant have tint at all, and i go to get gas in california cause i live near the border, they could pull me over...i think ill fight that ticket in court...just like when i go home to pennsylvania, and they have state inspections/emissions...they cant pull me over for not having my vehicle inspected because i have oklahoma plates/registration/license...i dont fall under the PA DMV

Hehe, I answered that kinda quick. That came from a friend of mine who still have on PA plates. I'm sure there are ways around those tint laws which you can fight off, though. I'm pretty sure you still have to pass the CA emissions still.

military posts dont require emissions inspections for the post decals unless you vehicle is registered in that state...for example, right before i got to oklahoma they stopped the state inspections, but had they not stopped them, i had would have had to shown state inspection, insurance, license, and registration proof to get my ft sill sticker for my windshield...however, i just had to show the other three...plus, even if that was the case in that crazy ass state, i would just bolt the parts back on, also i could just keep my ft sill sticker and i should be good to go...and if not, they would do what they do on ft sill - search your vehicle when you come on post, which takes about 30 seconds...so no matter which way we look at it, i should be good to go.

hey Razor. Just keep your Oklahoma plates and you won't have to worry about registration and inspection in CA. I am stationed in Arkansas and have NY tags. I've been living here in Arkansas for the past 3 years and no one ever questioned it. As tmht mentioned if they need you to have your vehicle inspected to update your decal. Just keep you Ft. Sill decal and skip Pass and ID office on your in-processing.

and just get searched coming on post right? i just emailed the transportation office at the defense language center...what is your MOS?

Hm.. a little OT: I was wondering, ever since you were recruited into the army, do cops still give you tickets? I know if I was in the cops' position, I would just let a military officer go. :)

well im not an officer, but yes i still get tickets (although ive been a good boy lately and sometimes they give you breaks)...but MPs (military police) are the biggest ******* a-holes on the planet...nothing like getting pulled over by a private or PFC...you think your cops are bad in cali, an mp once gave me a ticket when i first got to ft sill because "it looked like i was gonna turn into a one way street" - i started to turn and put on my turn signal but then saw the sign and went straight on - can you believe that s***?

although when i was on leave right after i got back from iraq/kuwait i got pulled over doing 92 in a 65 in missouri...so when the trooper asked for my license i also handed him my military id, and he let me go...i dunno if it was because i was army or not...civies are normally a lot nicer than mps.

I was in the military for 6 years....I had my car with me nearly the whole time....It was registarted in Texas....I was NEVER stationed in Texas....My mom would just send me my sticker for the registration.....I never had a TEXAS inspection done since I was NOT in texas....and never had one done in any of the states where I was stationed since the car was not registered in that state....I never had a problem....never got pulled over for it.....

however....when I got out and came back to texas I went directly down and had it inspected....the guy at the inspection station was like " where have you been hiding that you havn't gotten your car inspected in 6 years " lol

I was in the Navy, stationed here in California from '93-'98. The first few years, I had Florida plates. With your military ID and out-of-state plates, you do not have to adhere to emissions laws here. However, if you decide to get California plates, you only have to pay the "military rate" for registration each year, which is like $35! So, either a faster car OR cheaper registration fees. Somehow, I think I already know your decision!
