Hello,

I have checked the FAQ and the JL listed doesn't seem to be available new anymore. Has anyone had any success with other speakers to swap out the kenwood sub? I would like more base, but like the current setup.

Thanks

The 8w3v0 isn't available anymore?

I tried searching that on Ebay and a google search to no avail. Though google does mention a lot of MSP's which are running that sub.

What about a Punch 8? would that work or are the demensions all wrong???

Someone tried the Punch and got it to fit...but they mentioned having to modify the basket.

JL Audio does not authorize online sales. Go to their website and find a local dealer. Give them a call. I'm sure they can hook you up with an 8W3 or something that will fit in the enclosure.

If you find something different that fits, I will update the FAQ with the subwoofer model info.

I had a kicker comp VR in my enclosure before I took it out and put my 12's in. Little snug but it fit. Also Earthquake makes a very shallow 8" sub that's designed to replace the subs in Mercedes and BMW's etc. that I know for a fact will fit because I had it in mine before I went with the Kicker because I could get it siginifcantly cheaper...

I have also tried recently to get the 8w3 and the places around me said that it would not be released until early next year.

i got the 8" fosgate punch 1 and 2 to fit fine, but the problem im having is over heating due to no ventilation on the stock box. any suggestions on venting the stock box? or a sub that can handle running for long periods of time? another thing i did was install a on/off switch for the amp, it stays on even when your car is off. at least mine did.

The overheating issue has nothing to do with the box or sub.

With an aftermarket sub rated at 4ohms (the stock one is 8 ohms), you are doubling the output of the stock amplifier. The lower impedence and resulting increased output causes the amp to heat up more. Anyone in the industry will tell you that mounting an amp upsidedown on the top of the trunk is a very poor idea. It doesn't allow the fins to ventilate and any heat it generates stays right up there at the top of the trunk.

If you want to fix your overheating issue, try removing the amp from the enclosure and mounting it somwhere else. Some common places are the back side of the rear seats, a corner of the trunk, or under the front seat.

you know what's crazy is I didn't even think about the 8ohm factor when I did my swap... I guess that explains why it sometimes sounded like it was overmodulating in the enclosure... Oh well now I don't worry about it... 2 12" type R DVC's powered by Kenwood XXV-03a running in 1ohm overmodulates the entire car when cranked up!

i got 2 jl 10w7's in the trunk with just a jl 500 on them and a jl 300/4 on the mids and highs for the stock rack i had a 8w0 and wound up just getting a box built to fit in the corner that rack sucks so bad so i took it out.

overmodulate? That's a new one in my vocab...exactly what do you mean?
That's when a speaker's cone is being pushed past it's X-max and creating extreme distortion, popping, clipping of the sound. This will sometimes lead to the voice-coil and cone seperating, similar to using a cheap amp on a quality speaker and having all the crappy distorted power overheat the voice coil and pop the speaker.

When I say i'm overmodulating my car, I'm being sarcastic about how much the trunk and rest of my vehicle vibrate now that I can't turn up the volume too high without "overmodulating" my ear drums!!!

Not sure whether it's a real word or not, but it is commonly used by audio pros to describe this phenomena. Hope this helps!!! (headbang)

With subs, we usually call this behavior "bottoming out" because many subs have a back plate that the piston will smack up against if you send it too much power. It then creates a pinging sound.

That's exactly what I'm talking about just using a different term. Yours is probably the correct one!
