Other engine options

Ok, serious question. Will the six cylinder bolt up to the MS6 AWD trans? Just trying to gauge any future engine swap possibilities. Like maybe a 3800 Series II supercharged 6-cylinder, or GN style turbocharged engine.

I think the 2.3 and 2.3 DISI blocks are the same, which should make the tranny mounts the same. I would think that replacing all the electronics would be the hard part. I believe the MS6 ECU controls the AWD clutches as well. Obviously the MS6 ECU won't run the 3.0 V6, so how will you solve that issue?

Stranger things have been done. I've seen a GM 3800 installed in a late-80's Porsche 911. If that can be done, anything can be done.

Yeah, anything can be done. But if your asking if it can be or not, then you dont know how to.

True, I forgot about the damn computer controlled AWD. LAME. Maybe someone somewhere will eventually design a stand alone or conversion kit for that by the time my warranty runs out.

I read an article in Hod Rod a few years back about a guy who put a 3800 into a yellow Fiero GT. A supercharger on a car that weighs nothing? It was pretty cool, and different.

Well, that's why I'm asking.

If you're interested in different options for engine + AWD for this car, I would look at the Audi stuff. It would be a lot more feasible to find a couple wrecked Audis that you could salvage the big engine as well as the drivetrain and computer from.

There are other things you can do that would probably make this engine really come alive (i.e. bore size, port/polish airways, different pistons). Hell, you could probably do all that, and go with two turbos (one smaller than stock, one a lot larger).

The AWD 330xi and 335xi BMWs are also a viable option.
