245-65-17 size Blizzak DM-V1 shows up as special order shipping from NV warehouse. Anybody know why that may be?
The website did let me order it, but shows delivery as pending and no date given which seems odd.

Got a call after placing the order and they expect an updated availability next week. As long as I get them by Christmas I should be good - meanwhile if I end up going skiing I guess I will just take it easy on the OEM's which have under 6K miles so at least they have good tread depth. They won't be great in the snow, but I have plenty of experience driving in the snow which helps.

If your OEMs are only at 6K, you should be ok. Just as you mentioned, take it easy on them :)

Although, this is the type of storms I chase, so I will be much happier once I get the snows installed!!

Snow tires are better on snow not just because of the tread pattern design, but also the compound of materials.
Snow tires use materials that do not harden in cold weather. Summer tires however will be solid like rock on snow
making the tire slippery. I can only speak for Parada Spec-X, which is a mile better than Dueller. Certainly a decent
snow tire will be better than Spec-X on snow. No doubt.

update - Tire Rack got more stock in the NV warehouse of that Blizzak tire I wanted, so my order was shipped and I got them yesterday. Looks to me like they will do the job! Now all we need is some snow!!!!!!
