Ok. I've been working the past couple months on putting a kit together. So far I have new mam 1st gen sleeper manifold and downpipe, and a new spearco fmic.

Recently, I purchased a used, but good condition gt28r 60 a/r... no shaft play, etc. I'll still need to purchase lines, and a compressor inlet adapter for this turbo. I haven't even seen the thing yet... it's still being shipped.

Now the opportunity has come up to purchase a gt28rs with lines included for a very nice price. It's also a turbo I know the history on... been babied pretty good. I'm toiling with the idea of picking up the gt28rs and re-selling the gt28r. It's obviously a much nicer, more expensive, and "blingy" turbo, but do I really need it? Given the following circumstances, which do you think would be the wiser decision:

-Running external tial wg w/7lb spring. No plans on building motor, so no greater than 10psi will probably be seen.

-Since I have the first gen sleeper manifold (log style) and smaller 2.25in dp, I will see slower spool times as compared to the redesigned manifolds.

-Trying to decide between a plug'n'play msp ecu (pefect for 7psi???), MPI tuner, or Microtech.

So, the decison now lays before me to either finish the kit w/the gt28r, or splurge a little more and go for the pimp mack daddy disco potato. Also, given how the kit will be used, do you think the msp ecu is up to the task? I really don't feel like dicking around with MPI. The only good thing is that there is a pretty good and fairly cheap mircotech tuner in the area. However, for only 7-10 psi, I can't really see spending a grand on microtech. Ahhh decisions decisions....

Hmm looks damn nice. Looks like a revised 1st gen manifold. I had one and ended up selling it. I run the Gt28rs that comes from MAM with the 1st gen kit and it runs great. I'm only at 6 psi and keeping up with msps on 10-12 psi on the GT25.I ran with the MPI for a couple months and got lazy and just went Haltech since it would be the easy fix. I even have it for sale if you want it(MPI). I think I was parked next to you at summer palooza too!! As for the turbo....I think the only difference is the adapter as you mentioned, if its in your budget I would switch. GOOD LUCk!!

Thanks 'fredo. What prob did you have with the mpi? I've been thinking about driving down there and going haltech w/juan, but price is still a lot.

eh, its hard to really say. If your not looking for amazing #'s, just to have fun. Go with the Gt28rs. Quicker spooling.

Do you eventually planning on building the motor. I tell you, its hard to keep the boost low. Good luck though. We need more boosted p5's out there.

Id say splurge for the 28rs, and dont get a msp ecu. they run way too rich and u wont be able to get good power outta it. i would say go with the MPI, simply bc i have it on my es and it works like a champ!! no problems, and im puttin down some good power for 10 psi! thats just my opinion

But you had Kooldino to tune it. Thats a reason why I got rid of mine, I wasn't really capable of tuning my own car. And really nobody in FL is good at tuning it.

well i'm runing the First gen MAM SS and befor i got the mpi hooked up i was running the MSP ecu @ 6.5psi and yes it runs astraight 10afr at wot but it stayed safe and i had no problemsonce past the brake in stage so if you want to install and forget the tuning part do that but if you want to push more tune more and get more then gett the mpi and find/kidnap/buy a good tunner and with a wide band you can push enough to put a smile on your face even when your sleeping. JMO
either way you'll like it.

Yeah, Jomo is right. We both got our Haltechs tuned by the same guy. The MPI works and I can vouche. It's just the not as expensive as the other Eng. Mang.

tunnig with the mpi isnt that bad, once i watched how kooldino did it. now i feel pretty confident in doing it myself. u just gotta be patient and have someone else with you to do it. if u take small steps in tuning the powerband, you will have no problem with it. you can always find a basemap to work off as well, and that would really make life easy!

I say go for the Disco Potato man... And 10psi will be good on your stock engine. For EMS I reccomend the Split Second AFC. Best bang for the buck.

msp ecu will do fine, mpi is nice because you can customize your setup/settings.

The splitsecond also very good but expensive, in this case i would do the microtech instead, but you will need a good tuner, here it cost $250 to program the engine.

What all have in common, if you have a bad sensor, you will run into problems.
