Opinions on Boston Acoustic?

Looking at either 12" G3 or G5. My current sub I think has a little too much boom for my taste. I'm trying to find something that has more of a crisp, punchy bass.

I listen to all sorts of music; rock, rap, electronic, country, etc.. but my main concern is rock and how it sounds. Currently, it seems like it's just too much bass for certain types of music.

Soo, just looking for opinions and see what you all think of Boston Acoustic. Thanks for the feedback!

i dont' think a 12" anything is the way to go if you want to hear more crisp sounding bass. if you just want to add a little more depth to your system (which subs do) i would go with an 8", mayyyybe a 10". look into the infinity system that's like an all-in-one sub and amp

but if you just straight want an answer about BA, as far as i know they're one of the better sounding subs, that's just what i've heard though, never owned

BA is great stuff, all of their subs are pretty nice.

FWIW, it's a myth that larger subs are somehow slower, or sloppier sounding than smaller subs. It's all about the box design. In a properly setup enclosure, an 18" sub can sound just as tight and accurate as a 10" sub. If you just throw a sub into a generic box, which wasn't designed for the specific driver you're using, then you might not get optimal results.

This is particularly true with pre-made ported enclosures. They are usually tuned to a very high frequency, which makes for a one note wonder type of setup, where all you hear is the port frequency, with no low end extension.

You're replacing the wrong thing in your setup. Tight, accurate, bass requires proper box design built FOR the driver in question.

That is ridiculous. if anything a 12" is going to hit lower, which is crisper sound than any 10" or 8". The "boomy" sound everyone refers to is usually in freq. ranges from 40-50+ all the way up to 150hz. (Not that a sub should really be playing in 150 hz range in very nice systems)

If you want a tigher sound, you should look into custom boxes. Specifically you want to get a sealed box. If you would like to dabble in this some, here is a few How-Tos etc.

That site itself is pretty helpful, they have information for the newbie to audiophile.

Also, getting an "SQ" sub would be good.

well from what i gathered the op doesn't want a bunch of thumpy, boomy, outrageous bass, that's why i suggested a smaller subwoofer like an 8"

and i don't think there's anything much worse than being able to hear some other car's license plate or trunk rattle....from accross the intersection. that is unless they have a fart can as well

the larger the sub the more air it's going to move so it's only gonna get "thumpier" as the diameter gets bigger

It's all in the install. I've personally heard 18s and 15s sound flat out amazing because everything involved in the install was done right. Having a larger sub simply does not equate to more thumpier. If there is a thump problem, it's a poorly configured system.

thoughts on replacing the bose driver with the 5.25 " tang band driver from parts express ??

in a 07 GT

It will move more air if he turns the volume up louder. plus, the trunk rattle is rarely audible inside the car. I usually only hear my doors rattling in the car. I can only hear my hatchdoor & spoiler rattle if I stand outside. of course that sounds like ass to people outside, but thats of little concern to me until I get money for some dynamat material.

I own and used to have 2 12" G5s with 2 matching 12" GTR Passive Radiators installed in my car. They are very heavy weighing in around 35lbs each which is the main reason I took them out. My car handles better now without that 100+lbs setup in my car. Other than the weight, I loved these subs. They are very clean sounding subs and can move a rediculous amount of air especially when i got the GTR Passive Radiators. FYI, Crutchfield is having a Buy One Get One Free sale for the 10" G5, good deal for 2 and with a factory warranty. You can even try for 30 days and if you hate it they'll even pay for the return shipping.
