Opening the trans

Does anyone know off hand if the trans casing will split apart after unbolting the bolts around the housing. Or do I have to take off the black cover and remove something else? I have about a half inch in between the casings but it won't come apart. I feel like there's something else that needs to come off.

Just make sure all bolts around tranny to engine are off and seperate its gona seperate quite abit before the shaft comes out from the clutch just make sure your suporting the tranny while this hapens or itl just drop on the floor

Just re read your post....if you already have the tranny out of the car and are trying to seperate it then their is one small sized bolt maybe 10mm on the side that you remove and take out with a magnet a small spring and ball bearing...and i believe their was another one maybe a 14mm with the same thing....now its been about 2 years since ive done this so i might be off on my info but i hope it helps

Oh and also remove the black 5th gear cover and remove the locknuts to remove the whole gearing....are you replaceing the lsd?

Yea I was just referring to splitting the trans casing. Actually removing it was cake and this thing is way to light to drop lol

Lol yea it is pretty light...did you get it split open?
