Open downpipe

I took off the "test pipe" because i am going to gut the cat and put it back on, but untill 2moro afternoon i am running open downpipe....s**** is crazy..its loud, way more power, i just thought id share my experience. i plan on eventually getting a electronic dump pipe and keeping the stock catback and only upgrading the downpipe.

i tried open dp at the track and went .5 seconds slower and lost 3mph. it either was fuel cutting or just didnt like it. I put it back on and was right back where I was before.

though I do believe in the stock exhaust. 2.5 mandrel bent will work just fine to 350whp. I just did a test pipe and removed on silencer and it sounds good and pulls alot better. i picked up 10whp doing this. Next is dp and exhaust will stay that way for awhile.

I thought someone did this before and melted some electronics on the underside of the car? Or was it when they took off the entire downpipe and back? (dunno)

if you take off the downpipe your left with nothing but the turbo chillen there bolted to the pipes and turbo manifold...

talk about loss of backpressure.

i remember reading that thread. a guy was driving around witha n open DP and he melted some wires cause it got so hot.

Why are you gutting out your 2nd cat...? Why not just leave the test pipe in?
What type of gain did you get by installing the test pipe? Did you feel any improvement in power?

im gutting the cat so that the exhaust flows faster when i put the pipe back on....

Yes i believe a guy or two melted some wires because it got too hot but i am only running this setup untill today in the after noon so i wont have any problems.
