I couldn't avoid a large metal beam on the beltway....

punched a nice hole in the trans and a nice 12-14" long gash right through the floorpan. Also blew out a tire and cracked one of the Rota Subzeros. Insurance came out today, will be interesting to see if it's totalled or not. Car has over 177,000 miles on it.

I was able to limp off the highway, by the time I got back by there the stuff was gone. There was a trooper on the opposite side of the highway, it was probably taken care of by him.

Tomorrow I will start the teardown. I've never messed with a FWD before, so this should be interesting, Especially doing it in my gravel driveway. Floorpan should be interesting, replacing it is out of the question (for me to do), and could be the deciding factor on totalling it.

Sorry about the car, but you're damn lucky that thing didn't mangle your foot, or worse, when it came through the floor.

Damn, that sux ass. ****** up way to end up losin your ride, but cool nothing but the car was injured. Trash on highways like that pisses me the **** off! Wife hit somethin smaller like that in her volvo. Cratered a factory 300.00 alloy & bent strut/control arm but the michelin tire survived somehow. Cost about 1200.00 to fix. Luckily I had just won 500.00 on a scratch off so it only cost us 700.00. She had 500.00 deductible so we just ate it. Wasn't worth the claim for 200.00 that they would cover. Best of luck with the insurance & or rebuild.

It would have been my ass.... Middle of the passenger seat to the middle of the rear floor...I am glad it didn't come through any farther. Luckily it didn't tear up the carpet.

Hopefully it wont be too bad to repair. the floor will definately be the easy part...

Yeah ,same thing thought i'd post the pics here....

The trooper was on the opposite side, never talked to him or stopped near him, or called the police. In my experience, they honestly don't care unless there are fatalities.

It was 695 out by rt 40 around catonsville.
