On my own... need food tips

damn this thread roxors... yeah haha i saw a subway commerical last night... i jus need to find one, new to the area of herndon so need to discover. but before that, im hitting the pool after work =D

eggs are cheap, and take 2 minutes to scramble.

I'm in Herndon as well - There's a subway on the intersection of Herndon Parkway and Elden Street. There's also a 5 guys in there for some decent, cheap burgers.

You have 2 costco's at just about the same distance from each other. I make my choice based on traffic and time of day. 28 north to Sterling or 28 south to Chantilly. Both locations are relatively new so you can't really go wrong choosing either one.

Katie brought up frozen chicken breasts, but I don't reccomend the unseasoned ones from costco, they tend to have an odd taste in my opinion. Jliao hit it on the head with the flavored ones. They go great with rice, in salads, and make decent sandwiches and you can buy them by the bagfull. Costco also sells cheap pasta and you can get any variety of sauces to put on them.

When all else fails, I can live off mac & cheese or Korean noodles.... god I love korean noodle bowls. ...

Chipotle is right off Elden as well. If you head torwards the toll road, past the chipotle you'll hit the clock tower (as its' aptly called). There you have a few decent, small restaurants, baja fresh, sub shop. Advance auto and starbucks also have shops there.

Best sushi in the area is in reston town center at Obi Sushi. Damn good spicy tuna rolls. There are a few places to drink there as well, rio grande, tap room, etc.

Which compex did you move into?

keep some cans of black beans handy(goya is good), huge bag of shredded cheese(freeze it to keep it longer), salsa, maybe some chicken breast. make some big ass burritos. A george foreman grill will heat a burrito up nicely too.

Fruits and veggies are definitely cheap. making your own smoothies from frozen fruits is fun. Usually a banana, some strawberries, and milk is a good starting point.

Baked potatoes.

Mac & cheese, ramen, spaghettios(good source of lycopene, made with tomato puree), sandwiches...

Oh. invest in an air popper if you like to snack. Air popped popcorn is damn cheap, and not terrible for you either.

I also found that some tortillas, taco bell fat free refried beans, your fav. salsa, and some sour cream make an excellent and cheap filling food.

i tried to stay away from ramen, the sodium will kill you if you eat it for a long time.

I lived off of these in college.

i'm just gonna say my favorites from what everyone has said:

spaghetti - buy the noodles, get the canned sauce (mix with onions, or whatever to create your own) last for a few days in the fridge. (you can add ground beef or even ground turkey)

george foreman grill- GO BUY NOW! a fast, endless supply of burgers are at your fingertips

breakfast- buttered toast, cereal is good too

get some veggies to munch on too (carrots, brocolli (sp), baby tomatoes) and don't forget your fruits.

don't forget paper plates, napkins, and plastic forks and cups (i hate doing dishes)

Also look up the recipe for some spam musubi. I usually make a couple at a time and eat it over course of the week. Also you could make spam fried rice, spam loco moco, spam egg sandwich, ramen with spam....the list is endless. Spam is truly wonderful ^^
