Max Archer's Mazda2 Build Thread

I'm kinda shell-shocked right now. I had an '09 Civic Si Sedan for the past three years, and wasn't too satisfied with it. A few weeks ago, I drove a friend's Mazda2 Sport in the canyons, and instantly fell in love with the car. I did the numbers a few days ago, and realized that I could trade my car almost straight up for a Mazda2, and I'd save $1000 a year on gas, a bunch more on insurance, and have a car that I'd enjoy driving much more than the (comparatively) big, tech-laden Civic. I decided to just go and take a look at some 2s today. Plus, it'd be a brand-new car with three more years of warranty coverage.

Well, I ended up talking some numbers, and it came down to me being able to trade in my car, pay $300, and get a 2 Touring with a 5spd, in the color I wanted (silver), on the spot. So, almost totally unexpectedly, I just came home without my Honda and with a Mazda2! I already enjoy it a lot more than I ever did the Civic, and I'm already thinking about some light mods...

Wow, that happened a lot faster than I expected! by MaxArcher, on Flickr

Thanks!

This actually isn't my first time as a Mazda guy. My first car was an NA Miata, and I've been part-owner and "crew member" on quite a few other Miatas and RX-7s over the years. I've even rebuilt a rotary before! It was only a matter of time before I ended up back here.

I know that silver is everywhere these days, seems like 50% of cars are some shade of it, but man the 2 looks great in silver. I'd venture to say it's the best color for the car's lines, that or the metallic green. I always notice a silver 2 on the road, stands out for some reason, even in a sea of silver. Since our 2 is my fiancee's, early on I was told that it could be any color as long as it was red. But I have always loved Mazda's True Red, if I owned an MX-5 it would be that or that cool schoolbus yellow they only made in limited numbers. Anyways, solid purchase on the 2, you're going to love this car for what it is almost as much as what it isn't.

I didn't expect to like the silver as much as I did. I had been leaning toward it as a compromise, since I didn't want the attention of red and didn't really like any of the other colors that much, but I thought the silver was a little bland until I saw it in person. I think if it were a more normal silver it wouldn't look great, but the fact that it's slightly darker, halfway between silver and gunmetal or grey, really makes it look awesome. The color also complements the Touring interior really well.

Welcome to the forum. I have a silver touring as well, and I must say it's a great looking color on the 2. Welcome aboard.

congratulations on your purchase. We have the exact same car, let the modding begin!

Sweeeet. Good choice. Now just ignore the clicking/clunking you hear when you start the car and begin moving lol.

Congratulations on the car, I am still finding mine surprisingly fun to drive, even after 3K miles it has not worn off at all... I hope you continue to enjoy your also!
