ok, so who traded in thier Protege5?

My girl is looking at a 2003 Protege5, it's used and has 30K miles and the dealer is asking $13,900

I was wondering what you guys would think is a reasonable price for the car.
It looks like it is in very good shape, I've only seen pictures of it so far.
I don't really know a lot about the Protege itself.

Are there any specifics problems in general with the Protege5 I should check out when I go take a look at it? It is the same Mazda dealer I purchased my 3 from. They've been a very good dealer for me so far.

Check out the thread about the VCTS screw recall for 2003 Pro5s. The vin range is posted in an attached recall notice. If it is, it needs theintake manifold replaced. That is the only recall for our cars.

What's up Joshman? Where in CT are you? Which Auto dealer are you going through?
I picked up my 02 P5 with 69k in the $12 range. I've also been seeing them with similar milage for less than 10 on cars.com.

Depending on your trade in and financing, I think you could talk the dealer down to $11-12. Don't be afraid to set the bar low and walk away, because if you start to walk, they might start to talk.

I'm in Torrington. The car is at Modern Mazda in Thomaston.
I'm definately going to try talk them down on the price quite a bit and if they don't budge I'll definately walk. I will check on that recall as well.

going price truth be told....is that they got that car for 7-9k....so def knock them down they are being taken by dealers as trade in around there.....good luck!

In Feb, I paid $12,260 for an '03 with 26K miles (silver, manual) from a dealer in Iowa. I normally would not buy from a dealer, but the negotiated price was better than private party book values.

What does Edumunds.com say your perspective P5 is worth?

seems kind of high........they probably paid 6-8.5 at most for the trade.......

i paid under 17 for my P5 new back in 12/31/02 and it had leather, 6 disc changer, moonroof.......it was retail 18,200???????

better to try private party first. Dealers really low-ball on trade in. My car is work 8K trade in, 10K privateparty.

mine was worth that too with 35k but trade in I think was just over 10k. Mine is about fully loaded and it's an 03.5. even have the factory spare ture sub. i wouldn;t pay over 11 man.
