so i have the 2014 cx5 , i am on my 2nd windshield from stones and i am going to do something about it , maybe a bug guard , will it help let me know or if you have a better idea i will try it thanks (sssh)

I'm in the same boat. Let me know if you manage to find a bug/rock deflector. I have looked all over the place without any luck. The Mazda hood guard looks useless to prevent windshield damage as it's nearly flat against the hood.

CX-5 windshield class action US only that may go forward.

That looks like trial attorneys fishing for customers. It will only go forward if there really is a significantly higher breakage rate than comparable vehicles.

I doubt that's the case. I've taken a couple of really hard (loud) direct hits without so much as a chip.

CX-5 windscreen seems pretty tough to me.

Pay the $3 more per year for $0 comprehensive on your auto insurance and get free windshields whenever you want.
not everyone will pay $3 more, and that could be a factor of higher insurance cost for cx-5

I posted this elsewhere on the forum, but this is what you are looking for;

I bought it from here: https://www.amazon.com (commissions earned)

No picture, but it is the correct one.

If something is going to do damage to your windsheild a "deflector" like that won't do a thing. It's overpriced plastic. Save your money and put it towards either better insurance or better yet, a movie night and dinner with the family. :)

If you drive with the hood up your windshield will be protected. All kidding aside there are so many gimmicky products for cars these days. This is one of them. Think about it, its really, at best, a bug deflector and even then, go on a road trip and it will prove pretty useless in that job as well. Its definatly not something that will stop a pebble/rock/piece of blacktop, etc that weighs a lot more and is a lot harder than a bug..

I'm not trying to be funny, but possibly drive on different roads/routes?!

Agree, these are useless. Had one on my protege5 because I liked the looks. Never deflected anything though. Had 2 broken windshields, got plastered by bugs, and a rock actually broke right through the deflector breaking a huge chunk and chipping the paint on the hood.

While I too like it for mainly looks, I know for a fact that it will deflect SOMETHING as I have had these on previous cars and can recall an instance where I heard a WHACK and later checked the front of my car to see a scrape on the deflector but no hood or windshield damage. Obviously it won't stop everything or even most things, but it does work to an extent. I've never had a cracked or chipped windshield in any car with or without the deflector though.

But yes, to reiterate, it is mainly for looks.

Funny, I just got back from switching my insurance to the new car, and I paid an extra $6/yr to drop my comprehensive deductible from $250 to $100, with the windshield in mind. Maybe I should go back and see how much to get it $0.

BTW, the policy was $200/yr more than the 10 year old, 100,000 mile car I was replacing, so no complaints on insurance costs from me.

10 months in, just got my first major crack forcing the change of the windshield. Deflector may help but this was the first hit received near the upper edge.

Calc

A bug deflector won't help. I live in one of the windiest areas in the U.S. and back in '03, installed a deflector on my Jetta. I replaced the windshield four years ago (must have had 120K miles on it) because of excessive putting from wind blown sand. The amount of pitting was uniform from top to bottom, so this showed that the deflector has no affect on damage.
A couple of months ago, the deflector broke, left some wear damage (it rubbed) in the paint. I'd say to don't waste your time.
On our cx5, we have clear vinyl all over the front end/mirrors/top front of roof. If the windshield gets damaged, it will be replaced.
There is no film or way to protect it .
