White MP5 2002
I would like to put a sound system in , Amp nice subs as well but with out lossing my whole trunk, and I would like to have the option to play MP3 and satilie radio any ideas?(boom01) (drunk)

There's TONS of info in here already. Infact the best variety of options is goign to be in the $1000 challenge at the top of the audio section... http://protege5.com/vbb225/showthread.php?t=26312

Try to get some ideas from there, and then hit us with specifics. You can also check out alot of ppl's sigs to see what they're running. My basic reccomendations personally would be as follows:

Figure out howmuch is toomuch to spend, etc...

Find a deck that makes you happy (figure if you want XM or Sirius for one) Prettymuch Alpine's one of the easier ways to go here. I really like Eclipse decks, but they aren't really into the satelitte thing. Fine by me since if I ever do it, I'll be getting a portable reciever thing.
Go listen to as Many speakers as you can. Make a sample disc that covers your spectrum of musical tastes, and listen your ears off. Look at primarily 6.5" components, and be prepared 'cause some of them ain't cheap. Oh, also use some form of amp in the 50-100w range for them. When listening try to keep as similar of a deck and amp and settings as possible.
Once you figure out which spekaers you want, go listen to more... But then I'd reccommend either an eclipse, JL or Alpine amp for your front stage, and don't be afraid to push some power. There's alot of us running well over 100w to our doors and it's amazing.
For your sub, I'm a big fan of eD. good prices, yes, but don't let that fool you, they're very nice subs. I've never heared a sub that integrates so smoothly with music and doesn't just sound like a big speaker in the back thumping away. For space-saving, I'd say a single sealed 10 would be plenty, but there's a bit of a space/boom trade-off. If you ever decide you want more, you can always build a ported box.

check this page out. hes making a sealed fiberglass box for a P5 for two 12s and it looks like hes got alot of room left. im doing the same thing, but for a sedan, but im only putting one 12 in each side.

Actually, this article is stolen from Hihoslva (a member on this forum I think, definately on Clubprotege.com) That is actually a box for 2 10" woofers. I have a box built by a former member of one the forums that is for 1 12" woofer

That setup for my amps is changing so don't look at that, but the woofer is still in the same place.

Rider> hey so I'm looking to clean up my stuff, and gain some room, Have any detailed pics of your box, like behind the trim panel and such bychance? Is it part fiberglassed? I need to do something about my ugly but functional un-finished box.

Poseur, I do not have any pics of the back piece of my box but yes , the back part is glassed. if you follow the directions in the link above for Hiho's box and build it for your 12 you could get yourself a good amount of room. ANd if you give up your spare you can have a flase floor like I will have in a week or two when I get around to it.

Thanks man, I've been sort of torn on what route to go for my new box. but Ideally I'm shooting for just as out of the way as possible as my inevitably car turns into the bus for biking and snowboard trips. Sofar a setup like yours seems to be my best bet. I was pondering ditching the spare and such, but the bike thing takes us back in the woods a ways sometimes and I'd much rather have the option...

Okay I jsut read the write-up. I'm STOKED to do this now. silva is the man... That's alot less intimidating than I'd previously imagined. I think I'm gonna be re-enforcing in ALOT of places with some thick wood, however seeing as I'm pushing a 12a, and worried about blowing it up. I guess if he can stand on it and all that's pretty damn cool though. Also sweet how that jack-mount linesup so nicely in that spot for mounting. Hey, do you have any idea, bychance what kind of volume your box is? Looks to be fairly big. I'm shooting to be in the 1-1.25' range. Guess I could get a bag of packing peanuts, figure the right amount and kind of stuff it in there and eyeball it.

Hey Bro you car look great...

Ron, Thanks, but like I said the amps have gone bye-bye and have been replaced with some RF ones and I am redoing the floor. Just have to build the cover now and then will have pics. Hope to have it done today or tomorrow.

Poseur, as far as volume, I think I am at about 1 Cube without the woofer. The box could be made a little larger without giving up too much room. I think you will need to come out a little further into the hatch area as your woofers mounting depth is about an inch deeper than my K series.

BTW, everyone, that grille cover was built with the box but does not work, as the excursion of the woofer rattles the grille. So it is off except for the pic. I am looking into different grilles right now and currently like this one...

What do you all think?

I'm actually kinda considering sortof angle-mounting it and sortof coming out along the back towards the hatch more sorta like silva's just angled forward. Figure that'll give me room to clear that bigass magnet. Andyea, looks like I'm gonna haveto eat up a little more hatch-space that I'd originally planned, but hey it's cool.I'm gonna have to re-do the cover anyway so I'll still be able to get to my tire, so perhasp I can get a little more volume dipping into the floor.

As for the grill, Kinda depends on how the rest of your setup looks, but that seems a bit blingy to me. Definately sweet, it's just that everything else looks so clean and smooth.

Zg77...Here is my trunk and sub..pretty space conservative. I put my mountain bike and gear back there and still have room for the sub believe it or not. I built the box for about $30 and it's about .6cuft. Hell if i need to take it out then i just unhook it and pop it right out....works for me. And buy the way i'm only pushing 110 watts rms to it and it is enough for now...

Hope this helps...(rockon)
