Ok car audio geniuses, put together my system!

Attention Chuyler, Poseur, Wake, 1sty, and others. I need your help with setting this up properly.

My goal here is to run a 3 way front stage (Rainbow Pro CS365) plus a sub (either Arc 12D4v2, or a/d/s 312rs )= 7 speakers total.

For the signal, I have an 8053 with hi/front, mid/rear, and low/nonfader to work with. For amps I have a MBQ 4 channel and the DLS A5 3 channel.

This is how I planned it out:

DLS A5---> front channels run tweets + rear runs sub
MBQ QAA4250---> front channels run 4" midranges + rears run 6.5" midbasses

My question: How do I put this together correctly if I only have 3 channels off the HU, but need to run 4 in the system?? Can I split the R and L on the mid/rear preout with a Y splitter for both sets of mids? I was thinking of running the tweets off the hi/front, band passing both mids and using the x-overs on the MBQ, and running the sub off it's channel. Please tell me where the errors in my thinking are here.
<O:p

I also plan to run the 8053 16v balanced with the BLA, so I don't know how that affects using an electronic x-over if one is needed. If I do need one, which one do you suggest<O:p</O:p

Thanks for your time(thumb)
John

i'd suggest investing in a good active x-over. i've been very happy with my pxa-h701, but that would make for an odd looking dash, with 2 DIN units of different manufacturer. you'd have the same problems if you used the p9 system from pioneer. would you consider changing your HU?

I'm not familiar with the crossover options on the 8053 but my guess is that it isn't nearly as flexible as a standalone active crossover.

If you are not willing to part with it for something like the DRZ9255 that has a very flexible crossover and an excellent parameteric EQ then something along the lines of an Audiocontrol 6XS might help you out. You would still need to use some of the amplifier crossovers but check it out...

An alternative to the DRZ9255 is the Pioneer Premier DEX-P9 and DEQ-P9 combo. They pop up on eBay regularly (I would never pay retail for it).

Is the MBQ QAA4250 a hold over from a previous install? I have been contemplating going all active with my Iridiums by using my A5 (2x50+1x500) with an A8 (4x40).

Of course I would run into the same situation as you because my Clarion DRX9575rz only has 3-preouts and a very limited crossover.

No the Q is new. I couldn't pass it up...especially the power!! Yea I looks like we are in the same situation here. I really don't want to spend any more on an external x-over both because I don't wan't anything else in the signal path and because I like the 8053 so much.

The x-over on the 8053 is great and it runs up to 5k for tweets I believe and has pass, 6, 12, 18, 24 db slopes with time allignment in .1 ms and 1 second steps. I just don't know what to do with both mid channels?

I could use the Audiocontrol or the Arc and mount it in the glovey to separate my front channels to hp tweets, and bp midbasses....they are equal pathlength so my t/a is effective on all the drivers. I then use the bp from the rear channels of the hu for my midranges.

What to do, what to do???:)

With the high output voltage of the 8053 I don't think you will lose much signal by just using a pair of Y-adapters. Use them on the channels that control speakers that are the closest together so that you can keep open your options for time alignment. If you are mounting the tweeter and 4" next to each other this will work great and you won't loose out on any features of the head unit. (such as subwoofer control)

I've been looking at the DRZ9255, but I got the 8053 for $75 new (the cd eject mechanism was broke and I sent it in for repair.....so it cost $165 total).

What about the Arc IDX? http://www.arcaudio.com/arc-05/processors/idx.htm
Or Alpine DRE-A500: http://www.b15sentra.net/gallery/files/1/0/6/3/5/Picture-001.jpg

the arc idx doesn't have enough output channels. that alpine has some good flexability for outputs, but doesn't have adjustable slopes, which is important for an active x-over.

i don't get why you'd consider the clarion unit, but don't want to spend the money on an active x-over.

Because I have the ablitiy to run the 8053 at 16v balanced. How can I have the best of both worlds: a nice, clean signal and the ablility to control the system from my dash??

iva-w200 plus the pxa-h701(thumb) you can get the pxa-h701 on e-bay for about $400. the iva-w200 won't be out until march with a retail of $1100. use an optical cable from the w200 to the h701. can't get much better of a signal than that(first)

The Precision Power FRX-456 claims to be a 2/3/4 way active crossover but I can't find a manual or more information to see if it has two band-pass channels or not.

The audio control crossover I posted above is 4-way but it is designed for front high, front bp, rear high, sub low. The PPI might be the same way.

I think I might have found a good solution...the new Russian made Ural. Only thing is our little buddy Ben over at ED is running the GB....sounds like a disaster of epic proportions! Love to have that 4 way active though!

The URAL CDD unit is all in one resource for those looking in the ultimate in tuning ability This unit before now has not been available in the US market and currently is only available at Elemental Designs.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! (bang) (blarf) :bs: (sad1) (pissed) (protest) (cryhard) (argh) :'( (gun)

Price?

How long has this thing been around? It appears to be way ahead of all the other high-end designs on the market right now.

EDIT:

Nevermind. I found it.
http://www.edesignaudio.com/ural.php

$500 is a steal for a unit like this. The comparable Clarion, Eclipse, and Pioneer Premier units are well over $1000 retail.

However...I'm not sure about doing business with eD and what will happen if the unit I receive requires repair.

...I could always pay using my AMEX through PayPal and have the charge removed if the shipment falls through.

Compared to the Alpine H701 combo at > $700, yea $500 is a pretty good deal. Read the fine print on the page though....ED will not uphold any warranty issues and in the case of service will send it back to Russia.

I would not pay any other way except with a CC through PP!!!

eD or not, it's still a very tempting offer. I might give this a shot but I won't send eD my money until Feb 27th. They don't need to make interest on my cash. I'm setting up an outlook reminder now. If I don't like the unit, I can always turn a profit by selling it on eBay.

i'm trying to decide if it's worth the risk of buying one and holding on to it to put on e-bay. it looks to have some sweet features, especially for the price. but if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

I'm thinking about picking up a few, keeping one for myself and selling the rest on eBay....but you are right, the price makes it very suspicious.

I think I will wait to see what kind of huge disaster it turns out to be with ED. Once the smoke clears, I'm sure there will be some dudes out there that figure out that they can't afford it and sell for a loss. They've been talking about it over on ECA lately and there is come good info on it. See the attached manual.

I've been following the threads on eD's website. I'm going to continue to monitor the progress of their discussions and make a decision at the end of the month.
