I decided to replace the oil pump while I am replacing the head gasket. I have already removed the old oil pump and I am ready for the install of the new oil pump.

Do I have to remove the windage tray/main bearing support plate to install the new oil pump??

Any help is appreciated.

No, you dont HAVE to, but you do need to remove the oil pan, there are a couple bolts underneath going thru the windage tray.

I did remove those bolts. I actually have everything already disassembled. I am about to install the new oil pump.

(honestly, I almost wish i didnt remove the old one. Kinda pain in the ass) I just figured, while i am removing everything else during my head gasket change, might as well install a new arp head studs, oil pump, water pump, and timing belt kit in it... The oil pump seems to be the only mysterious part. I can only find minimal information about the install/removal. MY chiltons and haynes manual say, mmmm dang near nothing. blah

Yea, the one on the bottom, and I would assume if you could get it off then you are good to go with putting a new one back on lol Ive only ever done it with the windage tray off the car, so I couldnt tell you 100%

I was just worried that the oil pump wouldnt seal against the MSBP. Maybe by chance, the silicone would be "scraped" off while trying to slide it on.

My thought, if it leaks a little, then ill just rock it until my clutch goes out and then i can reseal it properly. I just do NOT want to separate the tranny right now.

Understandable, but there is no way the surface will seal unless you clean it and use fresh rtv.
