HELP ! I have a leak beteen the oil filter and the black part on top, i think it is the oil cooler,

This forum has helped me many times in the past with your wonderful posts. Now i need help

Me too! We were told by a Mazda tech that we needed to replace our oil cooler to the tune of $750...I'm wondering what type we need as we declined to have the techs put it in when we can...

so is it between the filter housing (the black plastic piece that comes off holding the filter, kinda labelled 3 in the picture) and the oil filter adapter (the metal piece the housing screws into, kinda labelled 2)? The housing gets damaged fairly easily, and can be replaced cheaply.

so where and what parts do I replace? do I need to remove it and take it to a local parts dealer (oreilley) is closest...cant seem to find just an oil sealer for the part, mazda makes you buy the entire part, not just the sealer...thanks for your reply, this part is such a pain in the tail!

Just happened on my CX7 after 140K. Took the oil cooler out and revealed a collapsed seal molded on a plastic device. It seems to be part of the oil cooler. I cleaned the area of the seal (both sides) and used High Temp RTV gasket maker from Permatex. Assembled it back, left it overnight then tested it in the morning. Its been 2 days now and no more oil leak.

Hope this helps to all.

if you have it torn down, you might as well do a spin on filter conv. I did it on my MS3, wanna do it on the CX7
