Oil Changed Other Than At The Dealership

Has anybody had their oil changed anywhere other that the dealership because i really don't won't to go all the way to the dealership just to get the oil changed when i can go to a place closer to me. I am asking this because i have read that u can only get the filters at the dealerships so if anybody has had it changed anywhere else please tell me how everything went.

ive gotten my oil change at mobile one stations. 15 mins about in and out and they can do the regular 15k services here as well. I went to the dealer for that though, oh well. Anyways good luck. Stealerships will charge an arm and a leg for simple things.

Correction....You CAN do that if you DONT own a Mazda3.....If yo do won a 3, then you need to go to the dealer and buy the oil filter for $8 from them, and then take that where ever you want....To my knowledge NO ONE carries our filters, but I can guarentee that as of today.....Autozone, Napa, Discount, Pepboys, & Jiffy lube DO NOT have oil filters for the 2004 Mazda3s....and I'm pretty sure that includes 2005s, as well as '04 i.....

i do believe the i's filter is available at your general parts store... its the 2.3l that you can't get... i just get them at the dealership and then do it myself... i use red line and don't want any oil jockey puttin in some crap and keepin the 50$ in oil for himself...

I get mine changed at a local tuner shop. Takes about half an hour. I haven't taken mine to the dealer since I switched to synthetic oil.

I don't mind, really. Everybody got a good laugh out of it. :D

Besides, he got his Karmic retribution shortly thereafter when he ran off the road on a tight corner and plowed down a phone box. (thumb)

Ok, ok... enough about me and my soot spot. Back to the thread topic, folks.

oil filters available

you can get the oil filter for the 3s at rockauto.com. I also checked with Advanced Auto Parts and they can order Purolator for about $5.50 each. I think Fram's are about $8 each.

I just looked at the 2005 Fram catalog two days ago and there was no listing for either the 3i or the 3s. Do you have a part number?

Nevermind. Just answered my own question. According to Rock Auto, the cartridge is a CH9641 and costs $8.96 plus shipping. The spin-on is a Fram PH9566 and costs $11.16 plus shipping.

I'd never use a Fram spin-on filter, though. The Motorcraft FL-910 is only $3.99, is available locally and doesn't use carboard and glue to hold the filter together.

hmm i got my oil changed at valvoline and i never had a problem. you think mazda switched to the spin-on for the 2005 3s?

I heard they were going to but I never got any confirmation.

i've got a 2005 mazda3 GT (canada) (3s in the US) and i still have the cartridge filter, so i would say no unless CAD and USD models differ in that aspect

I just bought filters from my local mazda dealer and they only had the cartridge style..
