Oil Change? Advice Needed Badly! Please assist!

I finally reached 4,000k Miles and I believe I need to change my oil now.
What is everyone running? 5w30?
Royal Purple? Mobil 1?
Tell me what you have and where you got it changed please.
(I am thinking about doing it myself. How hard is it?)

5w-30, stick to dino blood for a little while longer. It's been shown that a lot of modern engines do not hit their stride until about 15-20k miles and synthetic definitely slows the wear-in process. I recommend castrol gtx for no real reason, other than I've had great luck with it. If you insist on synthetic, I recommend penzoil platinum as it has the best additive package

as far as tranny fluid goes, again I recommend wait for a bit unless it's getting really notchy in cold weather, then go with redline (forget the type, perhaps someone else can fill it in)

I've read several postings by folks indicating synthetics should not be used for 5k on these engines. Is there a good online reference that bolsters this? Have folks specifically complained about leaks or issues if they went directly to Royal Purple or Mobile 1? I've had great luck with M1 and aside from forums on older engines (like 1971 Corvettes) this is the first place I've seen anything negative on the use of synthetics on modern engines.

Appreciate any information here as I'm coming-up on my first change and am leaning toward synthetic...

manual tranny doesn't have fluid like an auto does. i second the castrol gtx. i have used it in all of my cars up until the break in point where i switch to syntec.

I love synthetic, it pretty much slows wear to a crawl... but if you stop the wear too early, the motor never hits its stride. Do what you want, but I would not change to synthetic before 10-15k at the earliest

What ever the manual says man. Mazda engineers know what the **** their talking about. They Designed the car from scratch. Think about it..

Nah engineers dont know s***... Jiffy Lube with their 3K recommended oil change is the way to go... its not like Jiffy Lube and all the other quick oil change places have a financial incentive to make you change your oil needlessly....dont trust your owners manual....(shady)

Synthetic will be fine... some say its not good for turbos as they tend to burn-ff more oil than NA engines which means it will cost you more in maintenance... some say it actually burns off quicker,....

I say so long as you use the same type of viscosity recommended by owners manual and unless owners manual specifically says NO dont use it that you will be fine...

Not what the book says

their is no break in. This cars are broken in from factory..

Verbatim, from the manual:

Break-in period
First 600 miles: Avoid heavy
braking and acceleration; drive at
varying road and engine speeds

I think the manual is right.

My manual says something along the lines: "No specific break in is required, but in order to ensure the longevity of your engine you should avoid racing the engine and travelling at the same speed for extended periods of time for the first 500 miles"

I always used full synthetic from day 1 in my srt4 since it came from the factory with mobile 1. With my Ms3 is full synthetic really nessesary? I am tired of shelling out the extra bucks if not nessesary. I dont race my car, never rev past upper 5k's rpms.

Based on what I've read about how direct injection engines trash their oil, there's no way I would use anything but a good synthetic. FWIW, I just sent a sample of my MS3's oil in for analysis, so I'll report the results when I receive them.

i have a question about the transmission fluid, how often should u change that because i have never chaneged it since ive had the car lol
and its been 200,000 miles almost so idk if i need it or not

That and the heat the turbo generates seem to be plenty of reason to go with synth from the start. I like the idea of a wear-in period using dino oil, but engines from manufacturers using the best quality steel in the world (German) come filled with M1, I gotta think it's an automotive urban legend. More than likely Mazda doesn't see the cost/benefit working for them and that's the only reason they don't do it.
