Official MITM 2004 Thread

Keep in mind that this is the second MITM2 this year. The Official Event took place on August 1st, 2004. The spot was rented by the Nordic Centre and $2 million Liability Insurance coverage was paid for. The date was choosen approximately 5 months ago buy several Alberta Mazda groups. I'm not sure how your group was missed. The Nordic Centre may get quite upset if you try to hold the event without their approval and getting the liability insurance. They were quite pissed off about that happening last year. Please let me know who would be a good contact in your group because our Aug 1 MITM was organized by the chief event coordinators in several different Alberta Mazda clubs who were all communicating with eachother. This way we can prevent this confusion from happing again next year. I wish you success on your Aug 21st date and hopefully we can work together on planning a common date for next year's event.

Move it to the mcdonalds parking lot then....I don't see why liability insurance would have to be paid to anyone, it is just a bunch of guys pullin up in mazda's right? Or is there something I don't know?

OK, let's all remember that we started calling this MIM 2004 before we had heard about the truly official event being held on the 1st. I did a quick search on a few forums looking for any word of this event being held again. I did not find anything and therefor launched the idea here. The response was positive, so we proceeded. I don't believe that any of us anticipated over-stepping the official event - as we knew nothing of it.

Let's now think of the 21st as a bunch of guys (and gals?) meeting to go for a ride, because that's what it sounds like it is becoming, and there is nothing wrong with that! I would take any excuse to meet some new people and go for a ride with them. I don't intend to take over the parking lot and promote mass chaos. Simply meet, check out a few cars, go for a ride, repeat if necessary.

If it truly is an issue to use the Nordic Centre as a base-camp, let's look at Lake Minnewanka or Two Jack Lake. Bath are within the park boundary, but beautiful settings. Not a lot of riding in that area either, but we could load the bikes onto my car, and rip back to the Nordic Centre, go for a rip, and return.

Whatever happens is fine with me. I am simply looking for a small social gathering, not so much a full-blown car show. My car wouldn't meet the standards anyhow!

Thoughts? Remaining concerns?

Wyldsyde - Ya...well I don't know why you guys never posted the events here anyways. But we're just gonna have a regular protege meet up there instead. The planning did suck this year and was worst than last year's. At least word got around last year.

Andy - Ya..we'll still have the meet up there..it'll be just a regular meet since we haven't had one in 2 months. Bring Vince and/or Matt out. We have meets all the time at Mcmahon. No one pays anything. Security leaves us alone.

Sylvan - Minnewanka has that 25km trail that you can take bikes on. I'm gonna hit that up this Sunday actually w/ my sister's boyfriend. Anyways..meet is set...August 21, Canmore Nordic Centre. Come out, rain or shine!

We'll treat this as just a regular meet. Since MITM was over and done with already. Let's have a meet out of town before summer ends.

I stand corrected - there is ONE trail. Compared to countless trails at the CNC. :) I realize that there are a few trails around Minnewanka (I've ridden there a few times) but you must admit, it is nothing like the Nordic Centre ...

What time is the meet? Do you guys have a "standard" meet time?

Read the first post. 11am.

EDIT: Actually, you guys wanna all cruise out together? Like meet at COP and then head out onto 16th together?

Another EDIT: Bring FRS radios!!

I tried posting a message to this forum a while ago and didnt' receive the activation email until yesterday. This year's planning was absolute crap because this Vance Law guy (whom I've never met) said he would take care of everything but then dissapeared. There is no problem with having it at the Nordic center as long as their requirements are met. That's why we had to charge a $5.00/car cover charge so that we didn't have to take the full $ hit of the event. I'm sorry it turned out this way but all I can do is hope something better happens next year, right?

So are you guys bringing your bikes or are you just going out for the meet and cruise? Just curious as to what kind of meet this is.

I'm not bringin my bike. Those who are going riding are gonna go before the meet I think. So everybody would be together for the cruise :)

EDIT: oh ya..Wyldside..hopefully next year will be better planned. Do you have any pics? How was the turnout?

Let's face it...it was miscommunication with many parties at fault. It's over, no big deal. 'We' are just going to meet up and proceed with our plans and if next year 'we' all can get together, then great. If not...damn, to bad...there is always next year. No one wants to take responsibility for a large events because of the possibility of failure. I know that. Ask yourself this: Why are there so many different boards with different names on the internet? Why can't we have just one, like this one? Hmmmmm.....(scratch) Why does the EPC have one that isn't 'Protege' anymore? The CPC had one, why did it fail? Vancouver has one but they bounce around on a million different boards....OK rant over. I apologize.

Dudes... u can count me in so long as I don't have work that day. I won't know until next week tho. Even if I do I can proally manage to switch shifts...

Crap! The 21st is the day I leave on vacation. I might be able to stop by for a quick visit as we will be passing by on our way to the Okanagon. If not maybe next time.

But Kona....no worries. Because Kona's aren't allowed. I have a Rocky and so does everyone else. You can't get it without one. Haha, kidding....(silly)

I used to ride a Rocky, but now a Bianchi ...

Can I still come?

-=D

P.S. For those that are planning to come out for a ride as well, what time would you like to meet? Or, since the idea of a group drive out has surfaced, should we go for a ride after? Thoughts?

Bianchi, nice bike...it's Canadian made so....you're in! TIme of ride...don't know yet...depends on the weather. I'll suggest something closer to the day. Around 10-11am, before the meet and 2-3pm after the meet were my thoughts. We'll see....(wrc) , where is the 'ride' smiley????

HA HA Rocky's suck rocks! Actually they are nice bikes. Which Rocky you ride Dion? Full suspension? Depending on what kind of ride your all into. I would suggest the Rundle trail (CNC to Banff springs golf course) and Goat creek trial (Banff springs to Spray lakes back to CNC). These are nice trials. Nice views on the goat creek trail.

It's a RM ETS-X30. Not the top o the line but good enough for me. It's fully suspended with 3.5" travel in front with lockout and 3.5 - 4.5" travel in back. Hydraulic disks brakes...full tank of gas...oops wrong thread.

Hi Dion

Long time no see. I guess I should check this board more often but I've been so busy. I can barely keep up on our own board.

The reason we changed from EPC (Edmonton Protege Club) to EMC (Edmonton Mazda Club) was really because several of our members traded in their cars for Mazda 6s and Miatas plus it opened the club up to other people who did not have Proteges. We now have Miatas, Mazda 3s, Mazda6s as well as the regualr Proteges in the club. We like it.

Just thought you would want to know.
