I made the mistake of talking politics in the wrong thread and couldn't find a general thread yet so here it is. Something on your mind about a certain candidate? Did your local chairman have a scandal? POST IT HERE.

I'll kick it off.

Today an old dorm mate and I shook hands and caught up while we were downtown. He says he's been making a hundred bucks a day to spread Obama awareness in a city near by. Obviously I wrong the wrong group when I was going door to door for free when I was a college Republican a few years ago lol

Not explicitly a "Politics" thread but we somewhat had something going on the current election: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123820888-Romney-vs-Obama

Although it would be interesting to actually discuss political philosophies (liberalism, socialism, libertarianism, etc.) rather than argue candidiates.

EDIT: To stay on topic I follow a pretty strict strict libertarian point of view (if that hasn't already been made apparent). What this means for the uniformed is I agree with Repbulicans on a lot of economic issues but generally side with Democrats on social issues. Just remember, there's always more than two parties in every election!

I saw the Romney vs. Obama thread but that's its own matter that happens to be sort of political. Its just a bashfest between them at this point. This should be for everyone beyond the election. And I agree that everyone should have a bipartisan attitude. I tend to be more conservative though haha.

I tend to be more conservative though haha.
In regards to what: the economy, foreign policy, social issues, etc.? I try to avoid using the terms "liberal" and "conservative" because we've really bastardized their meanings. Somehow "conservative" has come to mean pro-business, pro-gun, anti-homosexuality, pro-religion, etc. and liberlism has become to mean the opposite when that really isn't the case (look up the liberalism and conservatism political theories).

I'll start a topic; what are everyone's thought's on government control, or lack thereof, business? It's my opinion that as long as personal liberties and fundamental human rights aren't being violated the government has no right to regulate business. Rather than regulate and punish, offer incentives (tax breaks, grants, contracts, etc.) to encourage certain practices.

I think the federal government's responsibilities should be to maintain a military, a judicial system, a monetary system (responsibly), infrastructure, and to step in when conglomerates become super-powers in the private sector.

All other smaller areas of governing should be able to be handed by state governments.

I tend to have a conservative outlook when it comes to money, and a libertarian's 'Let me be, you do you' kind of social take. I think in this day and age, there's so many different people in this country that you are going to be stepping on someone's toes when you try to impose any social regulations.

There's just too many individual topics to talk about but for just a ballpark feel, some of these don't really reflect my personal stance, I think it's an inevitable battle to try and bar homosexuals from getting married, I don't think abortion should be a topic of debate in government (That should be nobody's business except for the mother and father), ect. ect.

I think the federal government should provide like an almost free tax break for international companies to start building in the states again. As long as we're not manufacturing anymore, we're suckin' it from the rest of the world.

These are just quick ideas that came to mind, I'll try to think about it all more later and drop a nice summary of the political ideal's of Jon Lloyd.
