It was asked for, so I thought I'd create this listing of tire manufacturer's whose 225/45/17 fit our Mazdaspeeds. I just purchased the Bridgestone S-03's today, and I'm sad to say that they DO NOT fit. I had rubbing against the suspension arm and frame on the inside of the right front tire, and a slight rub on the left front. just spent $900 on a tire where I now can't turn the wheel the whole way without rubbing. DOH! Here's hoping you don't make the same mistake. So please let's help those who haven't bought yet and post the list of manufacturere's tires that fit in this size. I'll start it:

Fits:

Falken 451's

Does not fit:

Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position

Um, I think that it's not the manufacturer, it's just the 225/45 that doesn't fit. The brand and model of the tire might add or subtract a few milimetes of size from the oustide edge, but not enough to make a difference.

Also, you got ripped off, lol. They're good tires, but not $500 worth better than the Parada Spec II's I have.

Yeah, it's rubbing because you put the wrong size on. And ten millimeters isn't going to do much for your contact patch.

Well I will be the first person to thank you, Thanks (thumb)

And yes this list, if it becomes what I hope it will become (Database), will hopefully be a sticky and be useful to future MSP owners when they need to purchase tires.

This is on the stock MSP suspension, correct?

Yes, you sir get positive rep for starting this thread! Contrary to what some people in this thread have said, SOME 225/45 tires do fit just fine without rubbing. Amy was running 225/45 Falken 451s with no problem and was lowered with Goldlines to boot.

Hopefully this thread will grow enough for me to get 225/45s next summer and know they will work.(usa)

I asked the forum about this, and found many people who had 225/45's on their car with no problem (even cars that were lowered). And not one person said that they didn't fit. (yes I have a stock suspension)

As for a rip off...whether a tire is worth that or not is one thing...but being "ripped off" implies paying more than I should have for the product. For S-03's, 180 a tire is a very good price. I challenge you to find them cheaper anywhere else (other than E-bay)

And yes 10cm isn't going to do a ton for the contact patch. But under the impression that they fit, every little bit helps right?

Anyway, I would encourage anyone else who has them on their cars to come forward and let everyone know what brand works.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm hoping 225/50-15's fit..(for auto-x) does anyone know if they will? I'd like to know before I buy the tires.

Ok, os I used the incorrect run of phrase, sorry. In my opinion, very slightly better performance is not worth more than double the price of many other great tires, especially when you're gonna burn through them fast (you didn't buy s-03's to drive grandma around town) but maybe that's just me.

I thought they made that same tire in 215/45/17 ??

They do. And in retrospect, I should have just got those. But I had heard of several people putting the wider tire on their car, and like I said before every little bit helps right? Unfortunately, I would have been better off going for the safe option of standard size, than now being sorry.

And as for the S-03's cost effectiveness, you're totally right that they are not the best bargain or tire for your buck. But I wasn't looking for the best bargain or, most tire for the dollar. I was simply looking for the best tire. And since I have a friend that works for Bridgestone I decided to go with the S-03 since I could get them at cost+10%. But you're right anarchistchiken, the tires that are half the price are definitely NOT half the performance. Those tires are a great option for someone on a budget. Luckily for me Uncle Sam was kind with the tax return this year, and I could afford to splurge.

Let's not stray too far from the initial purpose of this thread though which is for people to post the brand of 225/45/17's that actually FIT their stock rims without rubbing.

It also depends on the "degree" of rubbing you're confortable with...

For instance, I would say tha the Toyo Proxes 4 225/45/17 fit OK (I used them for 8 months) but they do rub a little in the front when turning full lock. And from the 2 small holes ine the liners in the wheel well in the rear, they also occasionally rub in the back. But it's not a big deal. I doubt that there is a perfect fit 225 tire as the 215 are just about right & tight

I even get rubbing full lock in front on 215/45-17 ContiExtreme Contacts and in the rear when REALLY weighed down and going over bumps (I'm also on +50mm 17x7's)

Cool a thread already in the subject...

~ Ok... so with the stock suspension setup, 225/45R17's may or may not fit. So if I'm going to have Tein's installed, it may not be a good idea to get 225/45R17's. I've also heard that the stock size 215/45R17's may have rubbing issues with the Tein's. So would it make a difference to get 215/40R17 Or what would be the best thing to do and does it really affect the performance at all (braindead

Tire sizes are "nominal" from the manufacturer, and not regulates. Measurements are taken firrently and there can be much more than a "few millimeters" difference.

The Kumho V-700 225/45/17 fits but the Hoosier does not.

I have a set of Yok's ES100 225/45/17 on my car and no rubbing. I like the car ride better with the Yok's on.
