2013 Mazda 3 SkyActiv iTouring
Hello,

Over a year ago I ordered the OEM remote start (0000-8F-L40A) kit for my wife's car (Mazda 3 4 door skyactiv iTouring (I think?) with Tech Package. I also ordered the homelink dimming mirror. Installed them both last weekend finally and the mirror is working fine, but I'm having some trouble with the remote start.

I've rechecked most of the connections and all are fine. I've tested as much of it as I can think of ways to test. Door ajar switch is working (causes 6 honks), hood switch is working (causes 7 honks), I've tried leaving a remote on the dash, leaving a valet key in, etc those things fail differently.

When I try to remote start I get the first single honk, in the car you can hear what sounds like relays clicking in the steering wheel/dash area and then after a moment I get 8 honks/flashes of parking lights. The oem keys and remotes function as expected. When I go through the immobilizer programming it all goes as expected except the last step where the ignition should turn on for 2-3 seconds and then turn off. I've tried it at least 20 times, pretty sure I've got all the steps and timing right.

In the instructions it mentions 8 honks possibly being related to steering wheel lock, but this model doesn't have a steering lock.

Edit: Also the satellite radio is saying "Antenna Fail" now, I've double checked the connections on the Sirius box behind the glove box and they are undisturbed.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for sharing. I have actually looked at that article already and verified the kit I have is the "Updated" one, but still no go at the moment. Wife is still driving the car so I haven't had a chance to dig around and check the rest of the connections. Was hoping there was something other people had run into that was easy. Guess not lol.

Have you called the kit manufacturer? That's the first thing I would do. In fact, I had to do that when my alarm wouldn't turn off the horn honking when I disarmed my car at 6 AM. The company tech came to me to fix the issue.

Well, kit manufacturer is Mazda (OEM Remote Start), not sure who to call or if they would even begin to support an end user install of their product. I've contacted the people I purchased it through, but as of yet they haven't turned up anything useful.

Edit: Well, I guess Mazda may not be the manufacturer per se. In that case I don't know who the manufacturer is though.

Wouldn't there be a sticker, molded-in text, or other clues on/in the components? I bought my car with alarm system from the dealership but the alarm company is in CA.

I'll have to wait till my wife's car is here and I have free time to dig under the dash again and look at it. Thanks for your help.

Figured I'd bump this, since the problem still exists. I rechecked all the wiring and best I can tell everything is fine, but I still get the 8 honks about the steering wheel lock. Would really appreciate any ideas.
