OBX Header Under $200 dollars??

as he said already all headers will give u a cel, that is why there is a cel fix, since I am in Az where one of the retailers carriers this fix it is not an issue and should not be considered when deciding ona header as you will get one whichever way u go, unless you go shorty and keep the 1st cat but that would defeat the purpose.

I am going through my budget now to see how soon I can get this.

edit: oh yah for 230 shipped compared to the non GB price of the RM header at 380+ for 150 savings I will tug as much as I need to on that egr or Ill even work on modding it to fit comfortably, whatever, my labor on my car is hella cheaper than 150 =P

I think the Rm header is going to be better quality, maybe, but for my application this is much much more cost effective.

Atleast there is one person that thinks like me...

do you know what size the pipe is ? 2.25? 2.5?

could i make a custom 3 inch exhaust fit with this? 2.5?
 
yes i was tlaking about apex, i had seen their name come up alot in the racingmazda threads a while ago and looked up their addie, my brother dorms at ASU main and I go to ASU east so it is like 5 minutes out of the way for me to pick it up...havent yet as I was still deciding on which header, now that I have it wont be long.

I just have to be patient untill I find the deal I want for that OBX header.

zmepro, Im really not sure, I mean people put custom exhausts straight onto the stock cat(cat-back exhaust) and they seem to work fine, I think it is more dependant ont he flange but honestly I really dont know.
 
if you get a cat back exhuast the fits up to the stock piping it will work with any header out there...if you change the size of the piping, youre gonna need to get some adapter of some sort...why would you want a 3" pipe with a NA setup?
 
Based on the links to probetalk, the OBX header might not be mandrel bent. So that is of lesser quality. It seems like all the welds are smoothed out nicely inside of the piping though. Who knows. For the $180 extra for the RM header and the possible extra couple of ponies, its really up to the buyer what they want :).
 
the thing about the test pipe is I dont want ti =)

I want to be able to keep my 2nd cat when I install the header because financially I may have to wait to get a higher flow cat put in and definately dont want to be running around with no cats at all because of noise and pollustion I really cant be asking to get pulled over rigth now with my record...(i like to drive fast and the cops dont like it....)

I meanyes you will obviously have more power with no cat there and yes you canhave a cat welded into t, but why pay for a straight pipe when I am going to be puting in a high flow cat anyway? I mean without it, or without using it at least I can wait to get the cat and it will come already built into the mid pipe so I will be more sure of the construction.....

The OBX header is the only one in the price range I can justify right now and that is all there is too it now, there isnt obviously too too much of a diff in quality that buyingf this is a bad thing and I eventually want to boost(in 1.5-2 yrs(hopefully sooner but I dont want to get my hopes up)), so less expensive for what should be a temporary thing anyway is alright with me.

It was either this or price out a good downpipe with a hi flo cat or no cat at all and those cost as much as the full 4-2-1 OBX header...
 
hey p5sundevil have you tried ordering this header yet because im considering getting one pretty soon.. assuming its a bolt-on?
 
there is only one ever. try to order it, and everyone quit posting the pros and cons...ill bet my next paycheck that either

a) its on backorder indefinately :rolleyes:
b) its not available

so everyone quit trying to justify the header until you can even see if you can order it.
 
razor where have you been the rest of the thread:confused: :) , I am ordering it off of ebay ebcause they are frequently on there listed as 2.0L ford probe header. Well that is what the RM header basically is tuned for the pro's with bungs and such. Maybe a little better craftsmanship but the availability issue is dead, there have been dozens of probe owners to get these from web sites for 238 and off ebay for 200-230 shipped. So I am gonna order it soon.

guess that answers ur question too john, I havent ordered it yet cause I am getting the financials in order first.

I do know someone in this thread already bought one off ebay for around 230 shipped/+shipping?.

So to make that babble simple, all you hae to do is order that specific OBX header listed for the 2.)l Probe and your good to go....maybe have to mod the egr line or somethin, but well worth the savings.
 
good point, i forgot where you were getting it from...but that just makes another point to watch out for fitament...btw the rm header was for the mx6...well same thing as the probe really i guess
 
yah, I am going off info I got from these forums, i remember in discussions I thought the mx6 and the probe shared a engine, so it was universal(possibly slight modding) for those and now for our cars.

I have heard different small probelsm here and there for fitment but like I said everyone also said it wasnt a big deal to make it fit with a little work, and they look pretty nice....guess you could always have em coated too...

Like I said for me, since I hope this to be a temporary thing it is a better option.

I agree w/ ya completely...I didn't want a straight pipe either..I knew i would need a cat..b/c NJ emmisions will check to see atleast 1 cat...and intime i will purchase a highflow cat.

Same thing around my area w/ cops ..they love to pull over people for noise violations..which in some matters...is good...NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR SOMEONE DRIVING THIER CAR @ 2AM....4-5BLOCKS AWAY!

This is also the only one i can afford...the purchase of my nitrous kit..really hurt me...especailly when i lost my job!!

I have ordered this item..and have spoke to the seller..and hopefully i will recieve by next week!

btw how you likin or wet kit(it was wet right?) I still have int he back of my mind if that when I am done with my N/A buildup and then dont want to go with a turbo this is the next best thing. a nice NX 35-50 shot.
 
this header will work if you modify the bungs the same way that racing mazda did. there was a member on the other board who did this with the exact same header.

Well there was already a test dumbie...His name was awdlax
here was the first to install..He said it was a near perfect fit...He said it also bolted directly to the 2nd cat!! and he made his own resistor to get rid of the cel!! I have pm'd him hopefully he will respond back!!

Ohh yeah.. about the wet kit...I am loving it..NX has the best kit out there...i am loving it...and with this header i will see 14's....

he didnt make his own resisitor, i just saw him last saturday and when i told him what cel fix i ordered, he ordered the same one. secondly he says he doesnt think it fit right and he might have an exhaust leak where the header bolts to the block.
 
that could be from the bolr diameters being different which from what I have heard is the only fitment issue besides the bungs.
 
all im saying is, when you hook up your car, i would rather do it right...obx to me is too similar to APC
 
lol, OBX is nothing liek APC from what I have seen...main difference is I never see OBX products in a checker or autozone like APC and have never heard of quality or any other problems for any OBX product....I loved my intake and strut bars on my eclipse I had and the quality was fine.

I dont know I just can justify, or let alone be able to, spend that much any time soon for the RM header....unfortunately, otherwise if money wasnt an issue I would have been in on the GB.

edit: BTW i like the redesign on your sig. =)
