Okay, so the snow is already coming down, and I'm terrible at organizing stuff, probably better to put this off until it's warmer out but I wanted to see if there was interest.

There are TONS of great roads up around here and I figured a route 2 trip might be pretty fun. I take it to and from work every day. It stretches from the Albany, NY area all the way (I believe) to Boston, MA, and possibly beyond. Since it's such a long stretch and there aren't tons of places (that I know of) to stop at along the way it may become difficult to find a central meeting place.

Just to whet your appetite:
You will see cars, people, dogs, mountains, fun curvy roads, sweet valleys with rivers alongside the road, a big crazy scary golden elk, cute little towns, scenic overlooks with views of three states.
You may see deer, raccoons, beavers, porcupines, moose, wild turkeys, and bear. If you're lucky you may seem them all dancing together.

So, just curious if anyone's interested in this at some point in time. Down through the valleys between North Adams and Deerfield are some decent picnic areas I believe, could be fun.

Route 2

Although I live in NJ, my family and I vacation in VT, NH or ME just about every summer. I've driven Rt. 2 very often and, as you say, it's a real twisty located in a very scenic part of New England. I especially like the stretch between Troy, NY and Williamstown, MA. The curves are fantastic and provide a real test of your driving skill and the car's handling ability.

The stretch between N. Adams and Greenfield is also a fun and scenic drive including that awesome hairpin curve just east of N. Adams. I also know of an incredible side road that leads down from Rt. 2 to the Deerfield River and the Hoosac Tunnel. The town of Shelburne Falls is also worth a look.

If you could set up a meet in the Spring of 04, I would definitely be interested in attending.

awesome, we'll aim to get something together for spring. anyone familiar with the area to suggest a way to loop around? i typically just take route 2 up and down but if we start at one end and drive to the other we may want an alternative route to return by, rather than simply backtracking.

im probably down for the cause again, I just gotta make sure i'll have money for it and my car is in 1 piece.

Hey, man...I told you that Modern Motors has a 1986 Rx-7, low mileage, low price. Seriously...if it's still there, I'd take a look. :D If I had the money it would have been mine to use as a race car!

Sign me up yo!

Next weekend (Nov 1st or 2nd) I'm going to drive a bunch of Rt 2, mostly the Mohawk trail part. It's probably fun in the winter too, huh? We should organize some winter drives too. :)

adm,

If you are interested in a return loop for a Rt. 2 drive, you might want to consider this:
Assuming we drive east on Rt. 2 from say Troy,NY to Greenfield, MA, turn north on I-91 to Brattleboro, VT and then take Rt. 9 west to Wilmington, VT and then Rt. 100 south back to the MA border where we pick up Rt. 2 again just east of N. Adams. Rts. 9 and 100 are incredibly scenic and twisty roads and Rt. 100 south of Rt. 9 is relatively traffic free.

This could turn into a great ride.

I did start an area group by thread for winter tires and wheels if anyone is interested?

that would be perfect. wilmington can sometimes be a pain to drive through but it'll give us a chance to show off. :)

sweet! i was actually plannin on doin some research for that today. dealer advised me not to drive the car in winter here, or to find decent snow tires. since i need to get to work, and i can't afford another vehicle, i need to find some good affordable snow tires. thanks.

Get some Hakkas or Pirelli Snowsports. Yuyurena just picked some up for his MSP from the tire rack! The SNowsport 210s are good for our local weather and are fairly good for dry weather as well.

I have to call back the local Hakka dealer and see what they are down for. They have like 70 kinds though.

I figure studdeds are out as I thought they were illegal. I figured the best tire for highway driving would be in everyones interest as I doubt to many of us go for deep snow driving.

I can attest to the Pirellis being great for highway driving, but I'm not sure how much you could get them for.

Cool idea if you can hook other peps up, though! I need to get some 15" rims for mine....stupid steelies blow!

I was thinking a group buy for rimms and tires actualy.
15" steels with hub caps and wheels mounted and balanced.

We just need tire recommendations.
