Mazda 6 MPS (Speed6), DP, Exhaust, Intake.
Hello.

I'm new to motor sports and I just bought a 2006 Mazda MPS or Speed.
It's stock 260hp here in Europe but I'm wondering how I can increase that 300+ without taking the car apart.

Since I'm new most terms are unfamiliar to me except intercooler and Turbo :)

I've read the posts here but I simply don't understand a lot in them since the terminology is unfamiliar etc.

Any help, hints and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Simon

Just go to http://www.cp-e.com and buy everything they sell for the Mazdaspeed6. That will get you on your way to 300HP.

Specifically, switch to a Cold-Air-Intake, upgrade to a free-flowing exhaust, and replace then top-mount intercooler (TMIC) with a front-mount intercooler (FMIC). If your wallet can handle all that you should then look into engine management and other goodies.

Or apparently zee germans have cracked the ECU and can up the power to 300HP with nothing more than a reflash. There is dicussion about it in the Xede thread.

I also agree with the CPE thread, go with Cold Air intake(CAI), Turbo back exhaust (exhaust and Downpipe(DP)), Front Mount Intercooler(FMIC) and the ECU if you can afford this.

Start with CAI, then turbo back exhaust, then FMIC, then get the ECU and have it tuned for the parts you put on the car to acheive the best results. Jordan (On this forum from CPE) is very helpful and I know he wouldn't him a PM from you.

Thanks for the posts every one, they really helped. My thoughts were exactly about what are the most worth while upgrades that one should begin with and you guys read my mind.

Post back with a few Q's once I've checked out the upgrades you've recomended.

On a side note, my GF has a Mazda 6 2.0L 2003 automatic, are there any not so heavy engine upgrades available for that model, turbine etc?

Thanks again,
Simon

Here is a link to help with the terminology

Just a quick note, CPE's website shows all the parts we mentioned, all of them show HP & Torque gains. This will show you best bang for the buck, in terms of what you plan to buy.

I'm also new to the MSD6. I purchased mine in June of 2006 and it is bone stock. I would like to install a boost gauge to keep an eye on performance issues. Can anyone recommend a good one and are they difficult to install? Thanks for any info.

street unit has turbo upgrades for the MS6...... the GT3071R is good for up to 450 hp, and the GT3076R is good for over 500 hp and can handle up to 26 PSI of boost (car boosts 15 psi from factory).

of course the first turbo is about $1700 and the 2nd turbo is about $2500.... still, that's a nice gain for the car...... but uh, yeah voids the warranty and all, so I'll be waiting after mine's up to go that route :D

I'm interested in installing the CAI and going to the CAT back and 3" down pipe. Any idea on what effect this would have on the warranty?

Not always it doesn't. The downpipe yes...CAI and Cat back the burden of proof lies with the dealer to PROVE your mod(s) caused the problem.

just read here you came at a good time, a lot of product are being relesed and the reviews are coming 1 by 1!

If you are worried about your warranty, just install your stock parts before going to the dealer. That way if you ever have any problems with the car, the dealer wouldn't know you have aftermarket parts on the car. What the dealer doesn't know won't hurt them.............. ;) :D

I think 300HP is very doable for the MS6. However if you are talking 300WHP then probably not on the stock turbo.

The best thing for a turbo is AIR. The easier you make it to for the intake and exhaust the easier it is to make boost without over working and overheating. Along with tuning and a better TMIC or FMIC you will be all set with you modding goal.

I must warn you though.......Modding is very additive and you will always strive for more power. IMAO. The mod bug hit me hard with my last car (2005 Subaru Legacy GT). The only reason I stopped modding that car was a big F-up with the tuner and I sold the car.

Intake and exhaust will give you the "sound" (if that is what you are going for). The rest of the mods I wouldn't bother with unless you race and are looking for more power. If you want to square someone off at a traffic light sure go ahead and dish out the cash...but in the end I don't think you'll get much satisfaction unless you are taking the car to the track where that extra 50-80HP really makes the difference.
