hey,

I just installed a set of tokcio illuminas and Sprint lowering springs in my P5. Whenever I go over a bump or anything in the road I can hear the rear struts move. I don't know if it is because i don't have my interior reinstalled yet or what. You can hear that oil squishing kind of noise. Anyone else run into this problem?

It's probably not the Illumina's.

Assuming it's a banging noise:

When installing another set of springs on the P5, you have to have a couple of washers put in on the rear (under the main nut?).

You'll want to do this ASAP or else you'll punch a hole through the rear shock towers.

I've never heard any "oil squishing" on my Illumina's.

They're set at "1" in the winter, "5" in front, "3" in back for track days, and for the street in the summer it's usually on "3" front and "2" rear.

hey,

thanks for the reply. Its definatly not a banging noise. It sounds like liquid flowing through a syringe. Like a compressed air kinda oily squish noise. Only happens on rebound. I'm gonna try and change the stiffness settings and see what happens from there. Thanks

Matt

Mine don't make any noise, I'd check the rubber bushings. Still could be the struts though.

Mine needed washers also. I would put them either way. It could just be the spring compressing and settling in. I sometimes get that noise but it is no big deal.

what you are hearing is the sound of the oil working its way through the valves in the struts. its normal. my friends illuminas do that after 9 months noy, my teins do it after 3 years.

hey

why did you guys need the washers? It doesn't make sense. With the top nut on the struts tightened down the spring is tight in the seat on both top and bottom. There is no movement or slop whatsoever. I've never had to do it in any of my other cars. If there is a good reason then I will change it

In the rear of the P5 with any lowering springs, the shock may seem like it fits tight, but the shock really isn't securely in. There is actually a bit of play and the shock starts to bang the upper seat (?) and it can even punch a hole through.

I can't remember the reason exactly.

My car does the same thing with the stock struts im not sure if anyone has said this but im betting its the sway bar bushings dried out. I only hear it over speed bumps I been meaning to check the bushings but never know yours could be the struts specially if it just started doing it after you changed them.
