Noise once you get around 55mph

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone has the same problem that i have been having with my 2003 Mazda6. Once i get up around 55 mph it starts making a grinding noise. I have had at the mazda dealer around 4 times and the have replaced the trans, half shaft, brakes, brake calipers, rotors, and a few other select things. Can anyone help me out on what it might be? I saw earlier that some one was talking about sway bars and its bushings. But im not sure if it was on a mazda 6 or not.

Thanks,
sdean

The 3,6 and the protege have had some known issues with bushing in the sway bars. But ive never heard of it at a certain speed. It was always going over bumps. And it was a clunk sound not a grind...... you never know though.

can you notice where the noise is coming from? If it is only coming from one corner (possibly more than one), it could be the wheel bearing. I had a similar issue on a different car where it would drone at a similar speed.

hello,

Its does sound like it is coming from the front right, but it also sounds like its coming from the center of the car beneath the gear shifter. I was also wondering if it could be a heat shield that is lose and vibrating once the wind starts hitting it.

i also thought about a heat shield when i read your post, although it's weird it happens with car speed and not engine speed. you can always pop it off and see if it makes a difference.
