No thermostat in my P5, what the heck?!?!

Bought the car in June, decided to change my thermostat today because of a CEL. Pulled of the hose and the picture below is what I saw, no thermostat at all....WTF?!?! Is this common or did the dealership just not want to deal with it??

Yeah I put one in, I was just shocked there wasn't one in there....I'm thinking that was the problem

I had a Jeep that one of the PO's removed the thermostat. It isn't the end of the world to run without one, but there isn't any advantage to it, especially given how cheap a T-stat is.

more than likely it stuck closed on somebody and over heated on the road and they just pulled it out and left it out. ive had to do it before but i put one back in it

Dude same thing happened to me when I bought mine. Except the shady PO reset the ecu. Easy to fix though.
