No Oil?!

So where do I start? Need some input here.
I have 46K on my car.. Get an oil change between every 3-5K. The most recent oil change I did get was about 2,000 miles ago.
Well driving home from work yesterday my car started to make some really weird noise- sounded like a broken fan or something. Then all of a sudden my oil light came but it was flickering as if it was lose connection.. I stop at the nearest gas station to check my oil.. I was completely out of oil.. I had to put in 4 qts. I am not due for another oil change for about 1000 miles..

Why wouldnt my oil light come on sooner as a warning why only when its completely empty? Anyways.. I got some oil in it.. took it in to Jiffy Lube because it is now 8 at night (mazda is closed) I asked for an oil change (just to be safe) and for them to look at it.. they see no oil leak.. Could I possibly be burning that much oil?!! Jiffy lube did change my oil last also.. could they have possibly not put enough oil before??

What will cause your car to burn that much oil? I am sure there is no way to go back to Jiffy Lube and find out if they did put in enough oil last time..

I just hope I did not do much damage to my car.. I am taking the car in on Sat to get looked for that now and also other things.. my engine has been making a knockin noise now for awhile.. when I first got the car Mazda did warranty work on the engine .. I dont know a lot about cars at all.. but I guess Mazda broke the lower crankshaft bearing and I guess just the head gasket and valves. And something about the cylinder block. Could this be anything to do with it even though its down the road??

hmmmmmmmmmmm

i would not be surprised if they forgot to put oil in it

contact them and get a new engine

Major bummer. I am afraid that this is pretty bad news. When did Mazda do all the work on your car? Hopefully you can convince them that thier work is still under warranty 'caus you probably have a significant problem. There is no way to burn 4 qts of oil in a couple of thou miles without there being some obvious signs like great clouds of smoke. I wish you the best of luck, you are gonna need it. Sorry.

first mistake: Going to Jiffy Lube....those idiots couldnt master the complexes of making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich...they'd probably forget the bread...

Well yeah I would do that.. I am first going to get the car looked at through Mazda so they can check it all of the way and see what the issue is.. If there is no reason for my oil to be gone like that well then I know it's Jiffy Lube's fault..

Normally I would go to Mazda and get my oil change.. However where I moved to the service/parts mazda closes at 6pm and closed on sats.. I guess I could have taken off of work earlier but I didnt feel like using 2 hours of vacation time to just go get an oil change..

as to mazda breaking things on my car this was in 2005. I took the car back to Mazda (the mazda who fixed my car, they are well aware of my car) a few weeks ago because of the loud idle/knocking noise and they told me to bring it back so they can keep it for a few days to see what the problem is.. they said there probably is some issue..

yeah, i think i should get a new engine :) LOL

I don't think he got the most recent oil change at Jiffy Lube. What I think he was saying was that since it was so late at night, he's going to have Jiffy Lube change the oil and look at it because Mazda is closed.

Most likely, Mazda ****** it up.

keep reading/read again....he got his last oil change at jiffy lube...but usually goes to mazda...

Thats nothing. About 2 weeks ago I got a rod knock and I checked the oil and had about half a qt left. I had the awr pan which requires 5qt's and it burn't through all of it in 1200 miles. And there was nothing wrong with the motor. Oil was just dissapearing.

Atleast you didn't blow the motor like I did.

Who the hell would take a NEW car that one probably cares about to ******* Jiffy Lube BY CHOICE?

Wow.

Well, I'm a female not a man LOL

The car really isn't that new anymore the car is a 2004.. If I had my choice yes I would go to Mazda however due to Mazda not having convenient hours for me it leaves me to go to other places. When I lived in Milwaukee I had no other option but to go to Mazda to get my oil changes because the quick oil change places wouldnt change my oil and Mazda's service would be open till 8 or 9pm and even on Sats.. Here in IL Mazda closes at 6pm and is not open on a Sats.

But why wouldnt your oil light come on, just urkes me kind of..

And yeah, I am glad I didn't blow my engine.. But when I take it in Sat I guess we'll see if any damage is done and what that knocking noise is in the engine.. its not my fuel injectors either..

like someone said before...the oil light is a dummy light...it comes on when its probably already to late and have 0 oil pressure. Its in no way a comparrison to a real oil gauge...

the oil light won't come on until the pressure reaches a point where the engine is already messed up

the quicker you take it to jiffy lube the better chance you'll have at a new engine. they have a system for when this sort of thing happens, and it happens all the time

A car with zero oil would not have run very long.
This is EXACTLY what happened to my lx with 55K on the odometer.
Near all of the oil was gone within 2000 miles of the oil change, which I did myself.

I'd start looking for leaks.

I looked on mine and no leaks what so ever. Never smelled oil burning. Black smoke coming out of the exhaust not blue but the injectors where white showing it was running lean, no oil in the coolant and compression was 190 across the board. Go figure. The FSDE sucks.

Wait you have a knocking sound in the motor? Is it Rev matching?

Well the knocking that has been there prior to this (but has started recently in the past 2 months or so) it's not like a Knocking as in really loud.. its hard to describe its something you have to hear really.. its more of a ticking/knock? And its not the fuel injectors because you can hear the fuel injectors along with this other tick/knock.. I can be in my car/outside of the car and you can just hear it.. idles rough.. yeah, its just weird sorry cant be descriptive

Neither was ours, oil was just gone.
