I have a 1998 Mazda Protg LX and I had a guy put in a new radio and when he did two wires touched and made a pop sound and now the radio and dome light won't work. I have checked all of the fuses all are good and when I try to turn on the dome light, it flickers and then the check engine light comes on. Does any one have any suggestions on how to fix this problem and what he has messed up?

Well the dome light and radio don't run into your PCM but the dome light does ground out through the instrument cluster when set to "Door" mode. If no fuses are popped (did you pull them out and physically inspect them?) than there is a possibility he smoked the circuit board in the cluster.

I used a fuse tester, and I don't know if this will help but when I took my car to auto zone to have the check engine light checked the guy couldn't run a diagnostic check on it because it couldn't read anything

Thi s had happened to me aswell, go to the fuse box by the foot rest. I'm not to sure which fuse it was, but it was around the middle ones. For some reason when my radio went out so did my lights. I ended up finding that fuse popped, it was labeled something different then "radio", so I ended up changing it and turned out it worked.
