Now that Ford of Europe is raking in some money, it can afford to explore new models that will build up the brands image. According to CAR Online, Ford is working on a four-door-coupe version of the Ford Mondeo that is currently only available in a sedan and wagon variant.

As we already know, Ford is now making all its upcoming European models of global potential. The next-generation Mondeo is also expected to replace the current and disappointing Ford Taurus (yes that rebadged Ford Five Hundred one).

Due out in late 2012 or early 2013, the next-generation Mondeo will see few changes especially to its front fascia that will incorporate the new Ford Fiesta style look.

The four-door-coupe CLS style Ford Mondeo is aimed to targeted the Volkswagen Passat CC and will have what CAR says emphatically emotional shape with plenty of daring curves and cutlines.

The next-generation Mondeo will also get an impressive list of features like lane departure technology, adaptive cruise control with speed-limit recognition, a new MMI, Keyless Go, park assist and other fun gadgets.

To keep it fuel-efficient and green, Ford will add start-stop technology and will offer AdBlue diesel technology and a micro-hybrid version.

Old USDM Ford Contour = Old Europe DM Ford Mondeo

New Europe DM Ford Mondeo = New USDM Ford Taurus?

(scratch)

Oh well, as long they don't mess up the design badly and they don't slap fender vents on it, give it any name you want ;)

they need to drop the name, just get rid of the taurus and make it anything else

So Ford is going to be marketing two midsize sedans in the US? I wonder if the wagon variant will make it here as well.

^^ Who knows, the current Taurus X will be gone by 2010 if I'm not mistaken and the Flex kind of sucks as a CUV/cross-whatever...

1. Also, coup. a closed, two-door car shorter than a sedan of the same model.

Huh? Four door coupe, wtf? Does this make sense to anybody? I realise that the RX8 slightly stretches the concept of coup with three doors but, does not four make it a sedan...which the mondeo already is?

Regardless, the mondeo is pretty sweet but are we truely getting the Mondeo or just a mondeo bodied usdm 6 chassis. We all know the european/jdm 6 platoform is shared with the mondeo but we aren't getting that version stateside.
