Hello! Wednesday I bought myself a 1996 626, 2.0, 5spd. I like the car a lot. So much of it reminds me of my 90 Stanza in little ways so thats cool.
But, theres some catches:
The temp gauge likes to say its overheating, but ive driven overheating cars before and it doesnt seem like it really is overheating. none the less, i have a new thermostat for it for starters, past that i was thinking temp, sending unit?
The other problem is misfire in cylinder 1. For that i will get a new cap and rotor and wires and plugs, but then it could be a fuel issue and then what? has anyone else ever had these problems?
Its weird, the temp gauge will go down, and the engine fires just fine, but then i come to a stop and the idle lopes between 500 and 2000 until i put it in gear again. and then it doesn't want to go, i have to over gas it and come off the clutch slowly which i know isn't good for the clutch, but it keeps the car moving and thats important in this town where all the chicago transplants think they are driving in down town rush hour all the time.
Other than that, i love the car already, it so good to be driving a 5spd again and the 2.0 isnt a dog of a 4 so thats good too. Its the same 2.0 in the ranger right? so i could theoretically use ford performance parts on it?
also, can anyone recommend a spark plug? i was going to go with NGK coppers, but my buddy here told me just use the cheapest plugs you can get..any opinions on all of this would be much welcomed. Thanks for reading my speel and i'm looking forward to getting deep on the 626 with you all.

The overheating problem is solved! buddy and i got it up to temp then took off the cap and let it burp for a good 20 minutes. havent had a problem with it since!
Ive been reading some other posts about the sputtering problem. some people say seafoam, others say MAF, others say vacuum leak. what do you all say? im really shooting in the dark on this one. I am going to try carb cleaner on the vacuum lines tomorrow, see what happens.
