Newly installed clutch slipping??

o.k.- so I decided to bleed my clutch this weekend. I bled that sucker about 10 times till I saw clean fluid run through it. lol Used heavy duty dot 5 fluid. Well, surprise surprise! The car feels better! It still shutters, but no where near as bad as before. The pedal doesn't take three inches before it engages, no wierd smells, or sounds. Feels great! Not perfect, but a hell of an improvement.

CustomMSP, your trans was out twice. You state that your trans should have been bled, but I would do it again to make sure. My trans was out as well, but I dont think it was bled. It's uber easy, and it can't make things worse. It's worth a try.

Glad to hear it's working out for you!

I went back to the shop and we bled the clutch 3 times.

Did SPEC tell you this and did they have a solution?

Spec said that the throw out bearing was probably not greased enough therefore making the noise. I don't see how you can grease the actual bearings themselve that spin inside.

A little update. I installed the remanufactured pressure plate I got back from Spec. The clutch is working better so far with this pressure plate, but still not as strong as stock for some reason. I upgraded to the stage three disk as well this time. I'm just going to go with the stock pressure plate this time around and the stock throwout bearing, because they're both 100% better. Keeping the stage 3 disk in there. I do get a lot of clutch chatter.

Later.

A little update.

We dropped the tranny again yesterday and I replaced the pressure plate with the stock one I had. I kept the Spec disk though and let me tell you...this is me now (drive)

The clutch grabs right away and hard. Either there's something wrong with the pressure plate I got from Spec or they just suck. I'm leaning more towards a defect though, because other's don't have this problem.

I have been having this problem. It sucks!! Any updates on how your clutch has been since your change? I have some decisions to make about how I'm going to solve my problem.

My combo is working great still! The MSP pressure plate is strong. The spec disk seems to be doing fine as well. I do experience chatter though, however it could be because of my tranny.

Good luck and let me know if you need any help.

DOT5 is Silicon based and it will not mix with DOT 3 or DOT 4

Way to go, your brakes and Clutch that aren't designed to work with DOT 5 will eventually fail now...

Okay I'm about to buy a spec stage 2....soon. So, do they suck now, or is this just a bad batch.

Maybe get an ACT instead?

I wouldn't buy a Spec clutch again...

Exedy is suppose to be releasing a kit soon. Talk to JDMSam for more info.

!!!

I asked this before in another thread and got no answer.
Can someone please tell me if this clutch is any good?

I have a spent a lot of money on a terrible Spec 2 clutch and would like to replace it asap. I dont have a lot of mods, header, intake, exhaust, JDM flywheel. So this seems like a clutch that is for a low output car, such as mine. For the price it seems like you cant go wrong, but thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks for any help!

I don't see any specs on that page. However, the stock MSP clutch is made by Exedy based on what I've read. Plus the Maxima people seem to love them as well.

(mswerd) Mine is already on the way to replace my Spec which is just gone...

O.G. sk8tr, I would talk to JDM Sam about the Exedy since he's the one who helped them prototype it.

I saw one in the box last week that my friend Matt (Mental_MP3) had gotten. Look like quality. It even comes with a Koyo Throw Out (release) bearing!

Oh, nice avatar as well! Nothing like a little cos-play to get me going! :)

Well I got one coming to me(spec stage2), Im going to have my flywheel (turned?)/machined at the same time. I HOPE! that i won't be posting in this thread.

Did ya'll replace the throwout bearing and the pilot bearing also when doing the install?

Yes, it is best to replace both bearings, as they are cheap parts to buy for the insurance that you have good bearings.
