Hello all,
I've been reading this forum for quite a while and I finally decided to log on. I bought by PR5 back in april and am loving it. all the posts on this forum have been extremely helpful and motivational. I just finished college and wanted to replace my OLD plymouth horizon, and I found the PR5 at a local dealer. I had looked at other cars (celica, tiburon) that I knew had dealers in the area i would be moving to, but when I found the mazda, i was extremely impressed with both the dealer and the car. They were really helpful for a first time buyer, as they were able to work out a decent financing option and not make me cosign with my parents. Also the price wasn't going to be as much of a kick in the head as the other cars I was looking at (although I really wanted the 6-speed they offered, 6k more wasn't worth it) Anyway, I am extremely happy, as it looks sporty, doesn't scream "pull me over" to the cops (none yet!!) and still lets me drive like a bat out of hell.

As I know you want to know, I got the metallic black, 5-speed, sunroof, crome wheels (I love how they look and have actually gotten comments on them from other car dealers)

I haven't planned any real exterior or engine mods, besides maybe adding a K&N air filter. I'd like better performance, but unless its something I can easily do myself, it will have to wait.

I do intend to get my windows tinted black as dark as legally possible, partially because I think it would look really nice, be a little be safer security wise, and keep the car a little cooler (black paint + lots of windows + black seats + 98 degrees all week = very very hot car )

The one big mod I have made is the stereo. I mean, it did sound pretty nice with the speakers broken in after a 3000 breakin session the week after I bought my car, but I wanted more. Last week, after the first paycheck from my new job, I went and had some fun. I'll admit I would have rather installed everything myself (I've done it before) instead of having Circuit City do it, but they will keep the warranty valid and have a lot more experience. Anyway, I replace the head unit with an Alpine CDA-7894 (cd/mp3/xm), xm reciever, infinity front door speakers and inifinity basslink sub. It cost alot, but was definely worth it. The basslink sounds awesome and doesn't take up much space (I am a little unhappy on the placement though - right behind the 60 portion of the rear seat) and the xm sounds amazing, alot better than listening to the same cd over and over and much better than the 2 radio stations i could pick up sporadically.

Now, If I could just manage to keep it from consistently raining withing 24 hours of giving my baby a bath, I'd be extactic.

later everyone

Oh yeah...when you come in here you may want to wear old clothes....we tend to have a good old fashioned food fight once in a while :{D

yep. thats the new satalite radio everyone is talking about....but ya know? there are just to many free air waves out there to pick from to be paying $10/month to listen to the radio in my car....one of the advantages of it is if you do a lot of cross country traveling, you can listen to the same commercial free channel from coast to coast.....there are no dead spots...or so they advertise. and supposedly there are hundreds of channels to chose from.

yes, it is the satellite radio. from what ive observed so far, there are about 10 sections, starting at 20,30,40,50,...etc. at 80 there starts i think 5 stations that are labeled dance, but I only like the first 2 (the others are like disco and other old stuff) the good ones have been playing alot of stuff I recognize (paul oakenfold, etc) it makes really good driving music, relatively non stop, almost no commercials

most of the channels are xm specific, but they do pick up a few radio stations from different genreas

lets just say, the quality is excellent, the selection is pretty good, and i'm hard pressed to switch my stereo back to the cd

Welcome aboard eepr5...
