Newbie Looking for info on Speed3's

First i'd like to say hello to all. I just found this forum, and it looks like a great site with alot of good info. I'm pretty much sold myself on a speed3 for a second car. I've never owned a mazda, so I can honestly say I don't know squat about them, so bare with me.

First off, Is it very hard to get a speed3 to run low 12's high 11's without NOS? And how does the stock trans deal with these power levels along with motor internals?

On the tuning of these vehicles, is there custom software similiar to (efi live were you can write your own tunes) or box tuners?

If you're looking for a car that can run low 12's high 11's easily I would suggest looking at a different car. For a speed3 to run those kind of #'s and be reliable it would cost a lot of $$$. Turbo upgrade, Full turbo back, Intake, Stronger forged Internals, Stronger motor mounts all around, Slicks, etc.

So lets see you're looking at around 5k in upgrades most likely and no warranty for sure

Thanks ms3077. I appreciate your time. So roughly in the 5 to 10k range you could have one running in the 12's?

Could you have one running in the 12s.... I guess so. For just over $20,000 for the car, and then $5-10,000 in mods, but it probably wouldn't be pleasant to daily drive.

Think of it this way, for $25,000-30,000 you can make plenty of cars that fast. You could get a used honda and build a motor and turbo kit for a lot less.

I guess I just kind of liked the car, and was weighing mods to benifits. I also like the idea of its a little sleeper car. Like driving my truck. Big heavy diesel, but its a 12 sec big heavy diesel. You can surprise alot of people. I'm just tired of spending 1000-1300a month in diesel. Thanks again guys for your reply's.
