newbie here! couple questions can you help me out?

hi whats up. im new to the forum and i was interested in some info on the mazda speed protege.
1- i am thinking about getting one but can this car be fast?
2- can i get this to do 13's?
3- i did some researching on the parts but i cant find too much are there alot of mods avaiable? 4-how about bodykits and rims?
5- From what im seeing it does about 15 in the 1/4 is that right?
6- is there a larger turbo out there than the t-25 that will fit?
7- Any front mounts available?
8-does anyone have mods that are dyno proven to make alot more horse/torque?
9- is there any problems with this model? anything i should be informed on before i purchase?
10- i know this is in other posts but anyone know the invoice price?
11- what is the lowest 1/4 you have see for a protege?

All of this information would be highly appreciated. im really interested but i dont know much about this car yet besides the fact it looks sweet.

1. what do you consider fast?
2. yes
3. there are plenty of parts available, but not at huge shops. look in the "forced induction" section or around in here and you will see some vendors.
4. rims are a universal item on all cars, you just need to get the correct lug pattern and offset. body kit? honestly not my thing so i could care less if they exist, i actually prefer they don't but that's just me
5. low 15's, a few (very few) high 14's stock quarter
6. there are tons of larger turbos out there, i think you need a new manifold though to go bigger, but a bigger turbo isn't where you should focus your efforts for a long time if you want to make reliable power.
7. yes, see 3
8. more boost proves to make plenty of power, as do the typical other mods associated with turbo cars
9. hesitation, clunk, stereo. do searches to find out more
10. invoice - 20500 for 2003, 21000 for 2003.5. you should get it well below that though
11. i believe there are a few high 13's already, i know there are multiple low 14's
(12) 2003=2003.5 except for a few minor changes, most of them being looks
(13) spend some time reading and researching
(14) read maximum boost by corky bell

i know i cant just throw a bigger turbo on there i need to build up the engine first i was jsut interested for the future becuase i do plan on doing extensive work on this if i get it within the first couple months. As for body kits i like them to an extent. i believe they are nice if not abused by some companys that have hidious kits that are just stupid. but to each his own.

1- "fast enough for you, old man..." sorry...star wars reference :D
2- yes it could do 13s...but it would take A LOT! Because it's an auto-x god...not a drag demon - that's why I answer as I did to #1
3- Not a lot of parts, no. The aftermarket is building up quickly, though. It's mostly protege specific companies who are putting up the offerings
4- yes, of course there a kits and rims. use the search button above and you should find info...some names: WW, Erubuni, Autoexe, MintBlue
5- yes
6- yes. Spool-turbo.com one of this boards sponsers has an upgrade to a t3/t4 I believe. ION performance also has something...and of course you could always go custom.
7- yes...from the two companies mentioned above, or go custom.
8- Those companies will have dyno numbers soon on their upgrades; Injen also has a CAI which you can get for about 215 shipped that should get you 10-15whp as dyno'd. JoeP also has dyno proven (on his on MSP) what a little tuning can do. Search for his name (kwiktsi) and in his signiture it has his track time and dyno numbers before he sold it. all he used was his MBC, FPR, Fuel Cut defenser, K&N filter, and shear tuning magic.
9- problems: hesitation- not turbo lag, just too much fuel..stupid ecu programming. clunk - rear sway bar bushings deteriorate too fast, cause a clunking noise. notchy shifter - I don't mind...it feels great, but some people say it's a little slow. Hopefully fixes for the first two are coming soon...
10- can't remember. there are some heavily modded ones on here, but only some of the times are legit. Stock, though, the lowest I've seen is 14.9
11- invoice on 2003 is 19,500 or something; 20,500 is dealer sticker...a little more for the 2003.5. But there's also a rebate fr 1500$ if you hurry. Plus...if you can get a 2003 w/ lower mileage on it from a stealership, they'll probably cut you a hell of a deal.

So...17,500$ invoice. Drive every car in that price range that has anything near these options. Then drive this car. Then remember that all the information you'll ever need to mod it is here on this board. In other words...it's not a drag car, but it's sooo much fun to toss this car around turns past almost everything else out there; more fun than any car in it's price range.

just a suggestion if you plan to do extensive work, build up every system (fuel, internals, ignition, etc...) before upgrading the turbo, as it can efficiently make 250-300whp. so if you plan to upgrade the turbo, make it worth it by being able to use fully the turbo you buy. max out what you have before buying bigger.
oh yea, no problem :)

p.s. - mazdaspeed is 1 word, and you can put protege on the same line :)

lol yea im seriously though im typing and i start to fall asleep with my hands on the keys and i wake up like two secs later and it looks like this ahoeoshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

My take
1. Fast around corner (stock) fast in the 1/4 get a RWD car
2. You can do it, just not off the dealership
3. If bolt-ons not many, since everyone else in USA loves Honda and Scubbie
4. Don't rice this baby out
5. Yup that's the avgerage
6. Any turbo will fit the car as long as you put a proper flange on it, now if it make useful boost that's a different story, not sure what you want out of this, but yes any turbo fits, but remember we only have a 2L, that's not a lot of air being sucked to go for an "industry" standard turbo
7. Always are aka custom made. I think if you want all bolt-ons and ready to go for your car then look up Spool and Ion. Custom though can be more "fun."
8. Dyno are not a good indicator of power per mods, especially these chassis dyno, cuz they depend on traction, weather, and other measurement variabilities. However, upping the boost seems to be the most gain (short-term) for the least amount of money.
9. Clunk, windshield cracks, hesitation, stereo issues, coolant leaks, huge flame war against SRT-4 owners, attention from vandals, getting starred @ at intersections, rice boys wanna race you, cops eyeing you down, and speeding tickets.
10. Go to Edmund's website lazy bum
11. 13 sec?? but come on, a civic can go under 10 sec so can a protege just how much money you wanna dump on this?

yea maybe i should just stop dreaming of no payments and just get a rx-8. then ill have like 6-8gs finances that isnt that bad monthly payment wise right thats like under 200 or so.

then everyones msp is a ricer cuz it has a factory set of rims and body kit. rice is cheap s*** parts like TSUDO, APC, TENZO. and stuff that just draws attention but dont enhance the cars appearance. poorly done vinyl, lighting, aluminum wings on cars that dont have the body lines to match, non painted body kits, dinky ugly rims on cars with body kits, body kit with no rims, dropped on hub caps or steelies, etc.

Nothing wrong with Tsudo. They make some good products. Just like APC, you just gotta watch what you buy. And I don't consider ground effects that come from the factory as AFTERMARKET ground effects. And if you need anything bigger than 17's your're a homo.

I'm getting advise on rice from the guy that sells 2 Fast 2 Furious stuf ..... riiiiiiiiiiiihgt.
