New Virus Alert!

it is spread through a security hole in Windows using port 135, so anyone can get it as it does not require you to open an email or file of any sort. If your behind a a router, you may be ok, but update just in case. Install that patch manually. Do not depend on Windows Update.

I think I may have had that.. or something similar, my computer would randomly shut down after saying I had 1 minute to save my files... My computer was running slow ever since that one guy posted the link that installed spyware, so I used it as an excuse to upgrade to a 120GB from my 40GB. It takes FOREVER to format 120 GB.

Who installed spyware? That was the virus, I had it too, I would use my minute over and over again and in that minute I managed to get a patch.

wow.. I formatted my computer and had windows on it for no more than 2 hours and it started shutting down again.. then I installed the patch and did the scan and found it.. It already spread to 3 computers on my house network.. I need to check my routers firewall settings and install the patch on my carputer before I hook up my wireless network stuff. :D

What kind of scan virus scan or scan disk?

elp out a computer retard with some details for christ sakes!

just follow those two links in the first post and run everything step by step.. you will be fine.. trust me.. lol

the first link is a scan tool you download and run to remove the worm the second link is a patch to keep it from coming back.

I have 2 computers to go on this patch and scan. I say F*CK virus writters.

sorry I never replied earlier, but it seems you guys figured it out. I had a entire campus to straighten up and check and of course everyone is gone on vacation, so I'm the only admin there....arg

DO no depend on windows update. You can check your add/remove programs, and if the Windows XP Hot fix kbb23980 is there in the list, your patched and ok. I'd scan using the symantec tool anyhow just to check.

If your computer shuts down before it finishes scanning. Unplug the machine from the internet. Also, drop to a Dos box command prompt whatever it's called, and type shutdown -a when the virus is doing it's little count down thing, and that'll cancel the shutdown. Should be you more time.

damn virus's.....but hey, thanks to it I just made enough money to get my a nice new Thrustmaster feedback steering wheel and peddles :) Always wanted one of these, ever since I can remember....said screw it and bought it.
